I flashed my school because our teachers banned safety shorts

r/

I (18F) am a highschool senior and our school dress code recently banned safety shorts under skirts and dresses. They have no logical reason why, and when we asked all they every said was ‘if you want to wear shorts just wear shorts don’t wear the skirt or dress’ which is incredibly stupid. Basically all the girls in the school complained about how dumb the rule was, but the school wasn’t budging. Some girls even contacted the school board but they didn’t do anything about it either.

I was tired of the rule, so I found a way to make it backfire. I was one of the speakers in a big assembly as a ‘host’/’narrator’ who was meant to introduce the guest speakers and talk in between speakers, sorta like how a principal would in an elementary school.

When the assembly day came, I wore a gray blouse and picked out the shortest black miniskirt I could find. Before the assembly started, I purposefully unplugged my mic. Then, when I started talking, I acted like I didn’t know what was happening. I then bent over with my hips to lift up the skirt to the crowd. I replugged the mic, and began the assembly. I could see how some of the teachers were speechless and judging me, but I continued on. I even went to the bathroom to tuck my skirt into my underwear, so that when I came back on stage it was showing.

Eventually after the assembly I was brought down to the office and given a massive lecture about ‘public indency’ and not being ‘ladylike’. I acted shocked that I showed my underwear to everybody, but I made sure to keep bringing up the point that I wanted to wear safety shorts but it wasn’t allowed. I was questioned with why I didn’t wear something different, and I told them that I wanted to look professional and was in a rush. Me and the principal went back and forth, but eventually I got to leave. I’m not sure if I’m being punished yet, but I’ll update you guys when I receive an update myself.

I don’t know if I made the right choice, and I kinda regret it, but the point still stands.

I mean it seems like you followed the rule book, and if they are gonna discipline you make sure you ask what rule you actually broke because you aren’t wearing the safety shirts so your not breaking any rules..

The dress code is outdated. Your stunt made a point, but it could backfire. A petition might’ve been better. Hopefully, the school reconsiders.

I’m not sure if I’m impressed or not to be honest, I guess right idea but maybe carried out in the wrong way ? If there had been a group of you to make a bigger statement ? But you stuck to your guns and did what you thought was best in the heat of the moment, I hope you don’t get punished.
