I gave my number out irresponsibly.

r/

I (15f) am currently a sophomore in high school, and I volunteer after school at the local elementary. Where I work, there are two fifth grade girls who love chatting and gossiping with me during my shift. However, today, they began begging me for my number after I had already refused and I panicked a bit as a people pleaser and gave in, writing it on a piece of paper. I felt extremely uncomfortable with this and immediately wished I had written a fake number or just kept refusing. Obviously, if they ever reached out to me, I would immediately block them and delete their numbers without replying because I know how irresponsible it was for me to give them my number and I feel extremely guilty. I already emailed my employer to let her know what happened, but I’m very worried I’m going to get in big trouble with the parents, the school, or even get fired. If anyone could let me know what to do or if I could be in big trouble, please let me know.

I’d hope your employer would be understanding. You’re 15! You’re a kid yourself and also mistakes happen. Please don’t stress out too much about this, shit happens, you’ve done nothing wrong.

You should be fine, you’re still young and it was a lapse in judgement. Block the numbers if they text you. But you’re not an adult, it wouldn’t be as inappropriate. Tell your employer, and if next time you see the girls, tell them you weren’t supposed to give out your number and have them erase it from your phone. It’s ok!

What exactly are you worried about? If you were a boy (or if they were), I could see how this might look questionable, but you’re a girl, and they’re girls, so I don’t think most people would be super concerned. They probably just think you’re a cool older girl they like talking to. You could be like a big sister to them.
