I get annoyed by video game music quickly and turn it off.

r/

It’s not about the quality but the repetition makes it boring. Another issue is when the music is too dramatic. I was playing Metaphor: Refantazio recently and all the music sounded like Final Boss music. I am just walking in a cave, but music pretends the world ends any second. Video games are played for hours and I can’t handle this for too long. Let me chill.

I’ll play a game for a few weeks with the music then I usually turn it off

    Upvote for unpopular.

I feel the same. If it makes the game immersion better I leave the music alone but if it is repetitive or annoying I usually turn down the volume in settings. Like I understand music and sound are apart of the experience but sometimes it just doesn’t resonate with me.

Music in all video games or just some?

I knew this dude in HS who hated all pop, dance, and hip hop music because it was “repetitive” but would exclusively listen to video game soundtracks lmao

Holy shit, an actual unpopular opinion.

You’re so wrong. But I’m so amazed by a post that actually fits this sub that I don’t care.

Haunti has pretty good game music but there are certain parts where I have just muted the tv because I’m trying to kill a boss not get a migraine.

Me TOO! I had some unofficial WRs when I was younger. Part of my secret was to listen to music I like via headset, never game music. Idk why, but it grates my nerves so heavily. Every game, every genre, everytime.

yea CSGO,2 music annoys me lol

I don’t mind while playing the game, but if it’s not a game it’s not needed to hear what’s happening I like to just mute it and put on my own music. I don’t get people who play a game for a 100 hours than listen to the soundtrack when not playing also.

I think it depends on the game and how much the music is part of the storytelling. I have several game soundtracks I listen to all the time, mostly for working or other tasks where I need to concentrate as they have no (or very limited) vocals. Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, HALO, Skyrim just to name a few. Some of that music is just really beautiful (Aloy’s theme from the Horizon games in particular). I also really enjoy pretty much any music from Supergiant games like Hades or Transistor. Both of those really use the music effectively as part of the emotional beats in the story.

But there are some games where the music is just background and it does get really repetitive and I’ll listen to my own music or just turn it off, or turn it really low.

Me, too. I have to ask my little brother to mute his game or wear headphones when I visit because it drives me up the wall.

Me too. I play most of my games with the music volume off ( if the game has a separate volume control for music) or completely mute (if they don’t).

I have a low tolerance for unsolicited music. I even dislike it in movies, especially if it’s rap or some other noise they call “music” when really it’s just chanting or repetitive noises.

I think what you should hear in a game or when you watch a movie is what is happening in the scene. Music seems a strange and unnecessary addition.

I’m surprised this opinion even exists. I’ve never seen anyone have this opinion until I saw this thread, and I couldn’t disagree more. 99% of video game music (at least out of the games I’ve played) is an absolute banger, and I couldn’t play a game without the music, unless I turn off all game audio (BGM, SFX, and voices).

I’m the same way, and it drives my husband crazy. He loves soundtracks and is always trying to ask me if I like the music in a certain area and I always have to tell him it’s off.

I don’t know exactly why it matters so much to him. But pretty much all soundtracks just drive me bonkers, after a while it just drills into my brain and I can’t focus on anything else.

The only one I can listen to is the minecraft soundtrack other than that valid
