I had a gambling addiction, and gambled more than ill see again. AMA.

So, To start this off it isnt more than ill see over a span, just more than ill ever see at once.

I hit somewhere between 400-500k? I started Gambling at 11-12, I gambled on CS skins, and then would take those skins and put them into sites that I could gamble for more on.

Id take profits and instantly put it back in, Once i had no money, id steal my parents money, they couldnt really prove it was me because they dont speak english all to well, and id mostly just buy Steam Giftcards, and input the codes to get the money on my steam acc.

Id take tiny incriments at a time and they never noticed, i did this ONTOP of my small allowance of $100 a month. So, after a while of CSGO skin gambling that wasnt enough, and I found a forum that LARPers and Account Stealers sit on.

I learned you cluld exchange paypal for bitcoin on the site. So when I was 13 my parents opened a bank account with me, and I was hyped. I instantly setup a paypal, and started transfering all my money into bitcoin.

“BuT yoU cAnt hAvE a WalLeT” I found an app called exodus that let me have a Bitcoin Wallet, So id take that and deposit into sites like “Bust-a-bit” and other crypto gambling sites. I learned how to “flip” online names so thats how I earned even more and it all went to gambling.

Now at 21, i regret it and am glad to shake the addiction. Gambling took over my entire teenage years.

AMA.

Damn dude, appreciate you sharing this. That’s a crazy story, especially how young it all started. CS:GO skin gambling really opened the floodgates for so many people, it’s insane how easy it was to fall into. And yeah, stealing from your parents is rough, but I get how deep it can pull you when you’re in it. You didn’t really stand a chance with how all that stuff’s set up.

Huge respect for getting out of it though. That’s no small thing. Curious, was there a moment where it all clicked and you decided to quit? Or did it just wear you down over time?

Either way, good on you for turning it around. A lot of people never do.

How did your parents eventually find out? What did they do to you? I’m glad you were able to beat the addiction.

What allured you to this specific kind of gambling? Maybe I’m just old but…decorations on a video games? That’s what young people are ruining finances for? It’s completely lost on me. What exactly is it? The notoriety?

85% of gambling action is accounted for by only 5% of customers. The industry is literally built on the backs of people who are addicted.

Did you make money with csgo gambling? I know at the height of its popularity people were making literal thousands of dollars every day but I’m curious what your biggest win was

What is it that’s addictive about your gambling? Do you gamble again in the hope you’ll recoup your losses, or is there an adrenaline rush that you keep going back for, or something else entirely?

Dang, I started on CS skin sites too when I was around 15 probably. Always got those visa gift cards at target lol. Probably lost about $1k, never won

I have deep seated aversion to gamblers. My dad was and still is addicted to gambling. He’s lost several fortunes, including my college tuition. He’s 84 now and still sneaks away in the middle of the night to go to casinos to go gambling. He doesn’t think I know. He just has less money now. We used to have debt collectors calling all the time to the point where I had to unplug the phone then change numbers. I think it is worse than drug addiction. Drugs is a physical product you can take away. All you have to say is “I bet you.” He would bet quarters during breaks at work. A week after I had my first child he showed up during my postpartum asking for money because he lost money again. Not to say hello to his first grandchild but to beg me for money. He has burned all his bridges with family and friends. I’m the only one taking care of him. It is a disease that affects generations.

Worst thing is these game companies exactly know what they are doing to kids

are we just going to gloss over the “small” allowance?

    How much did you lose?

How did it feel for you to “win” at first? Was it a sort of insane rush?

I’ve been in recovery from alcohol for a few years now, and what saved me was the physical devastation that led to friends & family intervening.

I can imagine gambling addicts hiding their drug of choice for years because they can look normal on the outside, but bankrupt on the inside (if you’ll pardon the pun)
