I understand that the price of movie theater snacks is obviously absurd, but most people would agree that sucks. My issue is that I cannot stand hearing people smack their lips and crunch popcorn and struggle to open candy bags and wrappers and ask each other to pass the snacks the whole time. I hate that I payed like 12-20 bucks to watch a movie and I have to hear literally a room full of people non-stop eating.
Smaller unpopular opinion, movie theater popcorn also sucks and is stale, dry and the butter isn’t even real butter. Microwave popcorn is freshly popped and at least tastes like real butter, and it’s insanely cheaper.

For me it is the smells, someone beside gets liquid fake cheese and jalapeño, it stinks. Popcorn and snacks is fine, but kepp the smelly shit out of the theatre
I don’t like that most of the snacks are total garbage food.
Movies are always way louder than anybody’s eating sounds unless you have a special sensitivity to it, and go to better theatre’s, the food at my local theatres are great.
Depends on the film for me.
Swallowing popcorn like a seal during a blockbuster is fine.
Dominating a noisy snack during a drama like 12 Years A Slave or something is outrageous.
Sorry but this whole post reads like in Costanza’s voice. haha
This is funny, I do cringe when its in between previews or before the previews and you just hear everyone smacking their popcorn. I find myself not eating it until the movie. I used to have an issue with everyone swinging their feet on hanging roller coasters, so I tried to make a point to look like the cool kid not swinging his feet.
Microwave popcorn is cardboard flavored by chemicals made in a lab. Absolutely foul.
Give me that unmicrowaved freshly popped movie theater popcorn slathered in oily goo from the butter pump. I’ll be crunching that shit so loud you won’t even hear the explosions on screen.
I have a bigscreen tv and a good sound system. I recommend that solution.
If it’s during an explosion or loud action scene that’s fine but when it’s during a quiet sentimental scene it is so immersion breaking
hear me out… if you don’t like paying $12-$20… you prefer microwave popcorn… and you want it as quiet as possible… just watch a movie at home. I don’t necessarily disagree with you but it sounds like you don’t like movie theaters very much lol
Dude the theater is blistering loud.
So… don’t go to movie theatres, then?
I worked for a movie theatre. You understand that 90% of ticket sales don’t go to the theatre, they go to the movie studios right? That means that the ONLY REASON you’re even able to watch that movie in theaters is because of the snacks that people buy to keep the theatre alive and open. Yes it’s annoying but it’s necessary evil to keep theaters open.
The constant rustling drives me up the wall. And don’t get me started about snacking during theatre.
Agreed
I find movie theatre experience about the same as using public transportation or public bathroom
Just gross
It sucks, and I’m sorry for you. Unfortunately, you can’t tell everyone else not to snack while the movie plays❗
What you can do, is wait until said movie is almost out of theaters, choose a matinee time, and go when it’s less crowded. THEN, you choose a seat farthest away from groups of other folks. That way, you can watch your film in relative seclusion…
Stay home, then. People are allowed to eat their snacks in a theatre, there’s no social faux pas for doing so.
seems like you just don’t like going out to the movies and that’s okay. just wait a few months and you’ll be able to see the new movies on streaming you’ll survive champ
A movie theater is 100% a snack bar business that happens to show movies while you eat the food you bought from them.
I love theatre popcorn but I got a big machine to make it at home and haven’t paid for popcorn now in over a year. But I’ll fight you on it being stale. Your theatre sucks. Mine was almost always fresh and they used Lactantia butter.
I think its fun in some nostalgic way. like im at a sleepover with a bunch of friends cozy eating snacks lol I much prefer it over people talking or on their phone during the movie. But something about Ice clinking around in a soda and a hand rustling in a popcorn bag sounds like home.
Is this Mike Stoklasa?
We reserve three seats and only use two. This is the only way I can enjoy a movie theater experience, because if I get stuck next to someone who doesn’t have basic eating manners (read: chews without their lips closed), it’s game over for me.
That means you pitentially have some kind of ocd or something along those lines. I forget which. There is a condition where hearing other people make bodily noises like lip smacking of any kind is like nails on a chalkboard to some.
But you’re not wrong. I can see the wrappers and such being super annoying. But in my years of watching films or playing games, I am able to absolutely turn off my hearing for things like that and I don’t even notice. I could be at a party where the TV is on but everyone is loud and music is playing. I can drown all that out and hear the TV with crystal clarity.
So it’s a matter of learning to ignore ambient noise and focus on the movie screen. Not everyone can do it sadly I don’t think. So you may be out of luck. But I have absolute selective hearing, ad in, I can select what I hear. It’s also a curse since often I don’t hear someone talking right next to me if I am looking at something else at that moment.
It seems like people next to me always wait for the quiet moments to eat the last of their popcorn. It takes people SO long to grab a handful of popcorn then to eat it with their mouth open.
It amazes me that people don’t open all their food or get settled in before the movie even starts
