I have felt guilty for my husband dropping mil

r/

The downsides of having a husband that will actually stand up for u is looking like the evil rat in the family that tore everything apart. We said bye bye to her control.

These are words that have as much meaning as you assign to them.

Many years ago, I got off the train in downtown manhattan and it was pouring rain. Two drunk young men were standing next to the open passenger window of the only cab in sight, repeatedly asking him if he knew “Where Henry Street is.”

The rain was getting in through the window, the cab driver repeated his affirmative answer two or three times, yet the two men were drunkenly giggling, swaying, and wasting his time. I stood there for at least thirty seconds, waiting for them to get in. When they kept asking, I figured the cab was still up for grabs, and got in.

They looked at me *surprised pikachu face* and said that this was their cab.

“no, it’s my cab. I’m in it. And I know where I’m going.”

    They called me a bitch.

Normally I’d take it as an insult, but in their feeble, soggy heads, I actually saw it as a compliment.

“I am a bitch, thank you. A bitch with a cab. Bye.”

You don’t actually care what they think of you, you’ve just been told a thousand different ways that you should. But why? To stay obligated to people who take advantage of you?

    Nope. Bye.

Well, my husband couldn’t wouldn’t stand up for us and I was still the evil rat (even when I was going along with her shit for the sake of keeping the peace).

We eventually did go no contact (13 years later). It felt SO good.
