I’m older now but in my 20s I did this as a “project” which I was writing about my experiences. I’m admittedly partly posting this AMA because I’ve been trying to write a book about it and just getting stuck on how to synthesize everything I saw and experienced.
I did this after college, and after I worked a job that was relatively high paying so I was able to save up a few thousand as an emergency fund. My project was to attempt to survive on street performing alone, minimize materialism, figure out how to be in the moment and not be afraid of the world, and meet and talk to many people from all walks of life. I had street performed previously (studied music) and found it to bring about fascinating interactions. Ask me anything!

Where did you sleep at night?
Were you ever in more danger doing this vs. your experiences living a more conventional lifestyle?
I (72 M) hitchiked all over the USA in my early teens thru mid 20s. I can’t imagine doing it a few years ago as a F. No disrespect but you have bigger balls than me.
favorite cover songs to play? or wrote your own?

Do you have a favorite car ride?
What was your mental state like going into this? I mean no disrespect by that, just a pretty big departure from the norm and big risk taking.
I’d love to read a book about your “project”, how much of it is written? When do you hope to have it finished by/ published? Have you considered doing it again, either in the US or Europe or wherever?
What’s the wildest background of somebody you met?
What did this teach you about people?
What skills and experience would you say you gained from it?
