I knew she’d ask!

r/

We are due with our first baby (her first grandbaby) any day now but scheduled for a c-section on the 3rd. I’ve warned my husband that she’ll be asking to be there any day now, he’s said that he doesn’t think she will this whole time.

Well, today we get a group text to both of us asking when we’re delivering and telling us she’ll be in the delivery room waiting to meet “our” baby – she used the word “ours.” She doesn’t know we’re having a c section, so for all she knows I could be in labor for days, I know this is her ploy to get into the delivery room. Never going to happen.

I responded that my husband is coordinating visitors and a lot of that depends on how things go and how we’re feeling. Plus visiting hours etc. but definitely not immediately after giving birth, and not until things settle down and we’re ready for visitors.

Her response was that she will just wait to see him in the nursery through the window and then go home until we’re ready for visitors. Like I’m ever gonna let my baby out of my sight at the hospital unless he has to go into NICU; for one. And two, there’s no way she won’t try to weasel her way into our hospital room. Either way, I already said no. The last thing I need is my MIL who thinks she’s the end-all-be-all of medical knowledge butting her nose into my medical business or my baby’s medical business.

Thank goodness for my husband. He responded and said a lot of people want to meet the baby, I will coordinate, but Cassie will need rest and recovery and we don’t want visitors right away.

Needless to say, she won’t know until after I deliver, and she’ll be lower on the list of visitors until we’re not being visited by doctors and nurses constantly.

Do you know about opting out of the hospital registry when you’re admitted? Also, do you know that your nurses are more than happy to be the asshole to pushy “family” that can’t respect boundaries?

That wasn’t even a question, it was a presumption. Have her on the barred list at the visitors desk.

She didn’t ask she demanded.Consequences needed especially for saying”our” baby.

Make sure they lock down your visitors list. If it’s anything like our hospitals you can’t even get on the maternity floor without clearance. I just look at your last year and she’s a piece of work. Good luck and you’re 100% right. You don’t want anyone around you after you’ve had a C section. It’s a lot of pain and you have an infant as well. Good luck!

Does your hospital even do the nursery still?

In both of my hospitals they didn’t and kept the baby with me the whole time. A lot of hospitals are super diligent about ensuring your baby never leaves your sight.

100% tell the hospital she is not to be around. They take care of pushy in-laws all the time. I would call her after you get home and settled after a few days. If you decide to have another child, don’t give due dates. Just say oh I due sometime in May (when you are really due in April)

just here to ease your mind if you needed, i also have a scheduled c section coming up in a few months, and i have been reassured MULTIPLE times from my care team that only 1 person is allowed in the room for a c section- which will be my husband. i’m sure this isn’t just due to my specific circumstances or state, im pretty sure this is standard. so whatever your delusional and intrusive MIL thinks is gonna happen isn’t going to work out in her favor. this is precisely why my MIL threw a fit when i announced this (second) pregnancy on easter because she knew there would be no chance of her being let in the room. she insisted i MUST have a vaginal delivery because “it’s possible! you can have a vaginal delivery after having endured an emergency c section” she also diminishes my birth trauma left and right. my mom put her ass in place right on the spot and she shut her heffer mouth.

just some piece of mind! she won’t be allowed in the room 🙂
