I left a long career in TV to start a YouTube channel making weird dating shows – AMA

r/

The television industry is rapidly changing, so I decided to say goodbye to a career in reality TV to create fun & original dating shows exclusively for free YouTube. No more pitching, no more network notes – just creative freedom to experiment and try new things. It’s exhilarating!

The channel is called ELIXIR, and we’ve launched 3 shows so far, with more coming very soon:

Date on a Plate: Unhinged show with heads on plates. Its first clip went viral on Instagram. Hosted by comedian Nicky Paris.

Red Flag Green Flag: Singles share their most embarrassing secrets and insecurities in hopes of finding the one. Hosted by Jessica Lowe (Righteous Gemstones, Minx, Blended)

First Dates in Bed: Strangers get into a bed, remove their blindfolds and have their first (uncomfortable but comfortable) date.

New episodes drop every week.

It’s quite new, but I’ve been learning a lot as we try to build something long-term and grow our subscribers to more respectable numbers. I truly believe this is the future of content, and soon linear television – and the gatekeepers who control it – will be no longer relevant.

As for my career before this, I’ve made competition shows, food shows, dating shows, talent shows gambling shows and even a Rock Paper Scissors competition for ESPN!
