Hey everyone, I’m currently a nursing student living in my car full time while going to school. I’m 18 years old. I was forced to drop out of school at 16 and worked at McDonalds full time while I got my GED and then kicked out of the house at 18 on my birthday. It’s been a rough life so far lol. AMA

Do you get to sleep enough or enjoy the sleep?
If you had to choose between eating only soup for a year or eating only salad for a year which would you choose and why?
What kind of car? If you can afford it, get a big and tall tent and find some free camping sites so you can at least have some room in the weekend.
Where do you park over nite to sleep to feel safe?
Why did your parents kick you out?
I have no question. I just want to say good on you. Getting out of a bad situation. Getting your education. And continuing to make it happen.
Fight the good fight, brother. You’re going to make a great nurse. Stay focused.

Isn’t really a question but without giving away my exact location if you’re in southeastern PA and ever need a place to stay for a night or two send me a message. Keep battling through it. It’s only going to get better for you.
Do you have any other family or friends that you can reach out to? And are you employed?
Take care, OP. Wishing you a happy and loving home come the time.
Do you keep a bottle to piss in for times when it’s too inconvenient to pee in a public restroom?
Is your car paid off and in your name only? Are you saving up money to try and find a place, or paying your way through community college?
Would it be possible for you to find a light caretaking job with a senior person ( groceries, errands) in exchange for a room?
I have no questions, just wanted to say I read your other comments and I’m really proud of you. Working, getting your ged, going to nursing school. You are definitely gunna make it. I’m happy for you that you have found some peace and quiet in your own space, albeit small. Don’t let anyone ever take that from you again, they can’t, you are too strong now.
I wish you all the love and luck on your path
What do ya do for fun?
No questions but prayers for you and glad to see you are doing what you have tondo to be successful in life.
Do you ever miss the feeling of home/ security? or can you get that from your car? Whenever I’m away from home I always try to make my situation more cozy if that makes sense
I’m sorry you had such shit parents. I refer to mine as estranged biologicals – they sucked. Just wanted to say I am so proud of you. Keep going. 🌸
As a parent of teens just getting their feet under them, I wish you were local. We have an empty guest room and would love to give you a more stable “home”.
Awesome job at such a young age!! If you ever get to Montana hollar!!
Where do you park your car at night to sleep
My mother came from a very similar situation as you. She now has her Masters Degree and works as an End of Life Counselor. Keep your head up and eye on the prize. As she always told me, “You determine your day.”
PLEASE DO NOT DROP PUT OF SCHOOL!
Finish you ASN, get your RN and you’ll be in a great position. It’s hard, but you can do it!! After you land a job get your BSN and hopefully your APRN paid for by your employer.
What do you do when your car needs maintenance? Are you homeless till its fixed?
Are there any friends who you can stay with?
I don’t have a question but just want to say you are amazing. Your parents are trash.
I have an 18 year old daughter and I couldn’t imagine doing this to her. I wish I could hug you sweetie.
What is the one tool you use that helps with sleeping in your car?
What do you do for a mailing address for school and other things that require a permanent address?
Where do you go to sleep at night? Are there parking lots or truck stops that are safe?
Good for you! Keep going!
I say don’t stop there! Congrats on where you have come, once you are done with nursing school, consider med school! How cool would that be to look back on your 18 year old self, being an anesthesiologist making 800k/year going “it’s gonna be ok kid”

I moved away from home the morning I turned 18. Although it was my choice and my way to escape, that was 31 years ago.
If you’re in nursing school, you’re on the right path. You will go far.
Those lessons will serve you well your entire life.
