It’s tomorrow, and well, I’ve never done a picnic before. ðŸ«
But, I’m excited! I’ve been listing out some things to bring… and so far I have
– Charcuterie board
– Fruit Medly board
– Flavored sparkling drinks with wine glasses
– Picnic Blanket
– Umbrella
However, I’m kinda stuck now. 😅
I know we need an entree as well, but what should I get? Am I missing anything else from this list?
And for the picnic date… what things do you think would be fun to do for the duration of it? I was kind of thinking of maybe cloud gazing for one of them.
Thank you for any help, I’m so new to all of this! 😀

You’re over thinking. Charcuterie is pretty filling, so I wouldn’t worry about more food, unless you want a little chocolate/dessert.
The only thing you didn’t list was napkins/knives. Plates are meh if you’re both eating off the same board but you’ll want a napkin. Bonus for a little hand sanitizer.
Picnics are perfect for snacking! I think what you’ve listed is great. Maybe add some kind of sweet treat, yogurt covered pretzels or fancy chocolates are favorites of mine. Maybe some nuts for extra protein if you don’t have any. Just talk and let the conversation flow, look at clouds, and be relaxed. It’s going to go great!
Uhh when I do a picnic with my wife it’s usually afternoon with just a charcuterie board and a drink. If it’s dinner, maybe you could do an entree. I would probably find a nice spot under a tree instead of trying to set up an umbrella. Set up and worrying about wind would ruin it for me. Check the weather and bring a blanket or jackets if it’s going to be cool.
Don’t forget to pack your wine bottle opener! A trash bag would be a good idea.
Napkins, a bag for trash, and if she’s the type to enjoy it, two bottles of bubbles for blowing.
Will there be ducks? Bread for feeding the ducks.
Maybe an extra jacket or blanket if you’re in an area where the weather could get cool.
It’s pretty hard to screw up a picnic date. The point is to just spend time together in a low-pressure environment. You’ll be fine.
This sounds lovely! Don’t forget napkins, trash bag, and wet wipes for cleanup. Maybe some sunblock and bug repellent spray depending on where you live and what time you’ll be going. You could make a playlist and bring a little speaker. If there’s a lull in the conversation, have a backup plan, like play I Spy. It’s a quick conversation starter. You can also play on the playground or take a walk around the park. It sounds like she is a special person. Hope you both have a lot of fun!
Ice packs to keep the food fresh.

If you two have a favorite board game or card game, pack that as well! I have a to-go game bag that has pens, a small notebook, a deck of regular cards, phase 10, skipbo, 5 dice, and Yahtzee score sheets (print off online for free)
Food (characterie+fruit), utensils, napkins, plates(?), hand sanitizer, trash bag, ziplocs/storage for leftovers, pillows, base blanket, cuddle blanket, drink of choice with cups, music speaker, sunglasses, water! (My parks have yet to turn on water for the season) – if it is warm out chilled/frozen water bottles in a cooler to drink and keep perishables chilled!
If you need more of a meal do a take out sandwich from a nearby deli.
I Also vote to skip the umbrella and go for tree shade
Just get some really good, fresh bread.
Looks good
If you have time and resources…a pop up tent you can keep bugs away… protection from the sun.
Maybe a set of portable chairs with cushions. Or a nice blanket will pillows.
Don’t forget your trash bags.
Hand sanitizer and some baby wipes.
Best of luck
Nervousness means this matters to you, which is sweet. It’s not fun to feel nervous, but I hope there’s some part you can cherish, or some heart-pounding that feels like a good thing.
Mistakes are nothing to fear. Every step of the dating process is a chance to see how you and your GF adjust and adapt to each other. Suppose you forget to bring plates. That’s a chance to see if your GF has a good sense of humor and a forgiving nature. (And if you do feel horrified at the idea of your GF laughing, then you need to lighten your dignity and work on your insecurities.)
Ultimately, this isn’t about the activities you plan or the food you pack for lunch.
Some kind of cake. Trust me. Get some cake.
Get a loaf of sourdough bread and some butter. It’s a nice break from more strongly flavored foods.
The biggest thing you can do to make this work is to get yourself in a relaxed frame of mind. If you are tense she will be tense.
Maybe grab a board game and a deck of cards. They are just back up if conversation lags.
How fun!
A little blanket
Maybe a sppeaker for soft music. Soft ok? Not loud.
Watch the clouds or animals. Ask about eachother’s favorite summer things to do.
Something to deter bugs.
This is too freaking cute for words.Â
Charcuterie board with cheese, fruit, baguette and a little thing of butter. Napkins, forks and knives, special chocolates if you’re sure she’s the type to go for bigger romantic gestures. As for activities, it’s a date! The point is chatting and gazing at each other. You’re obviously a sweetheart.Â
I think we’re all excited for you! 💕. You’ve got this!Â
A picnic doesn’t have to be an entire three course meal. Throw in a baguette or some crusty bread, some butter, a bit of cheese. That’s all you need.
Eating. Talking. Cloud gazing. Playing I-spy or 20 questions. Listening to music on your phone. Making daisy chains.
She will appreciate that you did a sweet and fun thing for her.
Cookies or Brownies for a sweet ending.
Have so much fun. It’s sounds like an absolutely perfect date.
Seeded diced tomatoes
Fresh basil chopped
Crumbled Feta cheese
Corn (frozen, defrosted, drained)
Mix well, salt to taste. Chill, drain serve
The best picnic foods are those that can be eaten with the hands, and which don’t require plates and boards. So if you think the charcuterie board isn’t enough for a light meal, and many are, you can bring sandwiches, and cupcakes or cookies for dessert. Or brownies, did you know that brownies were actually invented as a picnic food? True!
But for some girls, a good charcuterie board and dessert would be an ideal meal.
it sounds like you have enough, but i recently did a picnic with my wife and cucumber sandwiches were a BIG hit! they’re easy too – spread is 8oz cream cheese, 3tbsp mayo, fresh chopped dill (1-2 tbsp) and chives (1-2tsp), salt, pepper and garlic powder all mixed together (it’s easiest if you let the cream cheese get to room temp) on white bread with thin sliced cucumbers (and tomatoes)!
You can make 1 day earlier, they’re actually better that way!
Also highly recommend bringing BABY WIPES – helps with stickiness that can come from a spilled drink or the sugar from the fruit!
Good luck she’s gonna love it!!
That’s a lot of food I think you’re good. Maybe some little cookies for a sweet?
The activity is usually the picnic, the eating , the conversation.
What about playing some music on your phone? Only if it doesn’t bother others around you of course. I don’t know if this is a crowded location.
You did great! Very thoughtful and kind gesture. She’ll love it.
One tip – I’d tell her what you’re doing so she can wear the right trainers and jacket or hat or whatever.
