A few years ago, I hit a wall. Life felt mechanical, passionless. I had a good job, a stable routine, but I couldn’t shake the numbness inside. That’s when I stumbled into massage therapy….not for income, but for escape and passion. I started learning with no big dream, just a quiet need to feel again.
The first time a woman cried quietly on my table, not from pain, but release I understood. It wasn’t about muscles or oil. It was about being touched without expectation, listened to without judgment. That moment changed me. I wasn’t just helping others; I was healing, too.
Now, every session is a small act of care. For women who carry more than their bodies show. For the ones who give all day and rarely receive. I’m just a guy with warm hands and quiet intention but sometimes, that’s enough.

As someone with chronic pain a good massage is soul healing

Sounds like you’ve found something you’re truly passionate about. Fair play that it’s something that’s helping others.
It might not be the best paying job in the world and it’s also something a lot of people wouldn’t be happy doing but you’ve found value and meaning in helping others.
“If you love your job you’ll never work a day in your life”. It’s a saying I used to think was overrated but honestly there so many people doing jobs they hate or just don’t connect with. They’re miserable just going through the motions day by day because it’s stable. If you’re happy with your new role embrace it and drive it on as your passion.
One thing I would recommend is figuring out the elements you’re truly passionate about as this could lead you to your true calling. Might be worth considering physio therapy hands on and your helping work people through recovery, somewhat similar to your current role, If it’s helping others social work or therapy could be a good match for you. But it might be the case you just love the physical connection and massage therapy is exactly where you want to be.
I’m in the process of changing careers rn and the deep dive into studying and self reflection just solidified beliefs that it was the right move for me. Like I hired a career coach and at the end of the second session they said there was no point in them waiting my time or money exploring different options. He extended the session by 30min to make a learning pathway, plan education routes, what jobs I can expect to apply for supporting study etc.
Don’t feel bad reward from helping others is an admirable trait and helps make the world a better place.
I found an amazing masseur last year and he absolutely transformed my life. Not just pain improved and old injuries repaired but the feeling of being able to care for myself by investing in his services. He is such a lovely man and I enjoyed our conversations too.
He’s now stopped masseuring, to focus on his art career and it’s heart breaking but he really deserves to do what he loves (and is also really good at). I hope to become his friend now I’m no longer his client.
Wishing you all the best in your endeavours.
Thank you for not being a creepy dude.

Wow…I’m happy for you…and the confession?
Wow this is a beautiful perspective to have on such a thing. Shout out to you. And I hope this job fulfills you for a long time.
Keep on healing
Love to hear that. I’ve considered this line of work as well. I am also due for a massage.
I recently found a my new goddess of a masseuse I named her SheJesus. She released quite a bit of internal pain when it was most needed.
I said go hard and she didn’t hold back. She is a fascia specialist. This is special work. I thank you for your service.
Nice try diddy
A massage changed my life. I cried and cried. I was so lonely and could not bring myself to believe I was good enough or worth anything.
My masseuse told me that my body is holding my mental pain and it’s all that is keeping me back from living a good life. She came weekly until she decided to retire. Turns out her daughter and son took up the “family business.”
I love to get a good massage. They are very healing. Your post reminds me that I need to get one soon !
I’ve been considering a career change myself. If you don’t mind me asking, what was the cost and time frame of your schooling/training?
Do you do weddings… As the groom?
