I had over 65k in stocks and had a job that payed 85k around 2 years ago. I lived exactly the same as I did today, eating Costco hotdogs, driving a beater, entertain myself with pirated games. The only thing I spent on was guns at around 3K which I could easily sell back now to get my money back. I lost both the stock value and my highly paid job and spent basically nothing. I’m not currently broke, but fuck, I lived like a miser for nothing. I should had YOLO if I knew it ended up the same way. At least I could have some fun or get a cool car. Now, I’m back to straggling to the daily grind with nothing to show.

Who took this from you?
I don’t get it, you had disposable income, did it all go on the guns? But you said you could sell them and get the money back that way.
I was similar aware of a few years ago I was making more money than I am now and I decided to put it into stocks and investments that some of which went belly up leaving me without that money and well I see it all as a learning experience and try to stay positive I definitely feel that I could have gone on vacay or something with that cash
This is called consumption smoothing. You save money in the fat years by living lean in order to spend it in the lean years. Living the same lifestyle then and now is exactly how it is supposed to work (at least optimally). HTH.
If it makes you feel any better, I had half a bitcoin when it was at 3k. I sold it to buy Yearn which was higher than BTC. at one point I had the equivalent of 0.8 BTC. Lost it all by investing in volatile crypto.
Hate to be that guy but if you sold those stocks that’s on you. Shouldn’t be investing unless you have an emergency fund to ride out tough times without touching your investments. Plus 65k isn’t exactly life changing. Maybe you could have sold, paid 20% capital gains, spent the 50k on a Beamer? Your life wouldn’t exactly be different.
Life, i guess, save money in the bank a bit and invest
Well…That means you are disciplined and experienced…You can do it again! The financial landscape is littered with rich dudes who lost many a fortune, in their day….Just try and enjoy the next one!
You did the best you could with that time information.
Take it as a lesson and live moderately in the future.
The smartest thing u did was live the way u were living. YOLOing the first half would have screwed u for this time
You still own those shares, right? So when the market recovers, you’ll recover some money surely.
Unless you sold your stock, just wait. What goes down must go up and vice versa. Anyone who invests in the market knows it’s a long game.
You’re mad because you saved money while younger rather than blowing it?
Your wealth is in your health
But what happened to the $65k in savings and your job?
You left out the important details.
I YOLO’ed in my 20’s, it was fun but I do regret the money spent on stupid shit, long nights and nice things.
That sucks and I’m sorry.
what i find interesting is when you’re rich people think you have it all figured it out. I was poor, rich, and now middle class but nothing changed as far as how i live or my core beliefs…..i still dont have it figured out and never did.
