A week ago I got either food poisoning or the stomach flu, which caused me to go to the bathroom many times and have diarrhea. Naturally my digestive system got back on track. However, starting yesterday my anus started to itch and what looked prolapsed hemorrhoids appeared around it. Now it doesn’t hurt when I sit or lay down for I only feel slight pinch. However, it’s still extremely itchy. Was therefore wondering if this will disappear naturally with home remedies like a warm bath, cold packs, and ointments or do I need to see a doctor about this.

Most hemorrhoids resolve with home care: increase fiber, drink more water, and try OTC creams with hydrocortisone. Only see a doctor if there’s severe pain, bleeding that doesn’t stop, or symptoms lasting over a week
You you don’t continue to have diarrhea or constipation requiring you to strain, the hemorrhoids will shrink over time. (And they can be pushed in manually yourself until they get better.) If the hemorrhoids continue to be a problem or get much worse, a doctor can help. I suffered with hemorrhoids for over 20 years without seeing a doctor until I couldn’t put it of any longer. I had surgery for mine about 30 years ago and I’m still doing great. The surgery was not “fun”, but it was not nearly as bad as I had expected. In hindsight, having surgery was the best thing I ever did.
