First time since I was a little kid. Don’t know what to do to feel better. Think it was just something I ate though my stress has been pretty bad as of late.
Advice on what I should do (or avoid) to feel less crap would be great. I feel cold and scared and stupid for being scared.

While we might be able to help you get through minor things (picking cold medicine, treating a minor burn, etc.), please seek help from a trained medical professional if you’re dealing with a serious problem.
If you are not able to access medical care on your own, you may consider posting in a sub like /r/AskDocs or /r/DiagnoseMe where you can get help from verified medical folks.
We also recommend the Cleveland Clinic website; you can search for symptoms and get information, or search the health library for things like “food poisoning” or “dandruff.”

You’ll be okay, duckling. Rinse your mouth, brush your teeth if you can. Put on something warm and comfortable that doesn’t bind your abdomen. Try to see if you can keep some fluids down; sip on some water, tea, electrolyte drink (Gatorade). If you’re okay keeping fluids down just rest and keep yourself hydrated. Stay in today if at all possible.
Sorry you’re not feeling well. Sip water, don’t take big drinks. Bland diet when you’re up for eating again, that means crackers, dry toast, oatmeal etc. Its okay to feel scared, that’s your brain and bodies way of warning you that you’re sick. Its gonna be rough for a few days but you will feel better soon. It sounds like the stomach flu to me but it could be food poisoning, so make sure to throw out anything that could be the cause and not risk it a second time when you’re feeling better. If you have a fever take something for it after your stomach is settled enough to keep down one of the mentioned bland foods, it’s not good to take them on an empty stomach. Anxiety can lower your immune system and make things worse, in my experience, anxiety pukes don’t include cold chills, but everyone is different. I hope you feel better soon.
people throw up for many reasons including virus, food poisoning, motion sickness, emotional reasons etc. if it’s the first two, you will not be able to keep anything down for a while, and you’ll want to watch to see that you don’t become dehydrated. see if you can keep down a sip or two water. if you can keep down some water, you can move onto a bit more water and something with electrolytes. take it slow and easy. most food poisoning and viruses run their course in 24 hours. if you can’t keep anything down and it goes on longer than that, you’ll want to go to the emergency department because you will need IV fluids. most people recover easily, it’s just unpleasant.
as you recover, use gentle food like miso broth, plain rice, toast, applesauce, banana, and oatmeal. focus on staying hydrated.
unfortunately, you will have to let a virus or food bourne illness run its course.
(also a tsp of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water can help)
It’s scary to lose control of your body! Makes sense that that could have rattled you. Throwing up can happen for non-scary reasons, though, so you’re most likely just fine, and the whole thing will probably be over in a few hours.
You might have a fever, which is your body’s way of fighting something (it’s a good thing). But if you are cold/hot/clammy enough that it gets uncomfortable or hard to rest, you can take Tylenol or anything that reduces fever. If you think you’ll throw it back up, wait until you’re less nauseated.
You might throw up again, and that’s okay. The concern with barfing a lot would be dehydration, and you don’t have to worry about that for a day or so. Once you think you can keep liquid down, have a drink with electrolytes, like broth or Gatorade or Pedialyte. You can suck on ice in the meantime for that thirsty feeling.
If you have other symptoms beyond generally feeling kind of crappy, you can research or ask about those, but vomiting on its own just happens sometimes for a few possible reasons.
(I’m not in the medical field, just a mom)
My advice while you wait for this to pass is to get comfy, keep a big bowl nearby, and watch TV or game to distract yourself.
Drink fluids. If you can keep those down you’re doing great! Try water, ginger ale, Gatorade. If you can’t keep liquids down try ice chips. They’re amazing.
If you feel up to eating, try bread, crackers, soup.
Lemon, ginger, and salt help with an upset stomach. Your saliva will help as well! You can try a lollipop or sucking on a hard candy so you’ll make a lot of saliva and swallow it.
Plenty of rest and do something for you.
Whether it’s food poisoning or a virus, you have to let it run its course. If you get to the point where you can’t even keep a sip of water down then you should go into an urgent care center as dehydration would be a concern. But throwing up even if it’s several times, is just your body responding to something. If it does progress into more symptoms, I definitely recommend sitting on the toilet and keeping a bucket or trashcan in front of you. The really fun sicknesses are the ones where it’s coming out both ends at the same time. And if you’re caught unprepared and that happens, it’s a mess. Hope you feel better soon.
Ran into a food poisoning scare last weekend. Luckily it was only for one evening, but the cold sweats were unpleasant. Mmmm water sounds good right about now!
Adding onto what others said, if you’re laying down, lay down on your left side. I don’t know the science behind why it works, or if it even actually works or is just placebo, but I find it helps. If it’s something you ate, some mints might help you a bit.
BRAT diet, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast– all these things are easy to digest and gentle.
Eat small portions and sip small bits of water to ensure it stays in.
It’s normal to feel anxious when that sick. 🤢
Nausea and pain come with things like flu, covid and bad colds.
Things to pay attention to high fever temperature, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, etc. If things like that pop up reach out for help.
No one here should suggest meds but ask parents or call a pharmacy/doctor for advice. There are over the counter meds that can make symptoms more bearable. Though I can say hydrate and try to get down some calories/electrolytes like gatorade, and sleep.
Drink some warm Coke, or ginger ale. Maybe some salt and water crackers, if you feel like you can hold it down. That should take the bad taste out of your mouth, at least.
