Sorry for my ignorance. I have never thought of myself as a racist, as I lookup to people from all religions, origins, orientations, ect. But I was accused of being in the KKK and I was offended instantly. But then I went home and looked them up, I always thought of them as a like shitty Neo Nazis or something. I found out they literally hate everyone. Like what the hell, how do they function. I get it I’m white, bald with red beard, ton of tattoos (mostly nerd stuff ie Stargate,Star Trek, LotR ect). My question is, looking into them, how do they function? I’m more confused than ever how I could be accused of being one of them when they’d hate me too.

What happened or what lead to someone saying that? Can you give us the context?
Edit: I got a notification of a response from OP but it loads as an empty message so idk if you hit something with the automod or what
they function like a clan with ranks, and they come together through their shared hate towards others, its basically just a cult that is based mutual hate for the “other”with christian undertones, they think they are the 5th crusade
you should watch blackkklansman, its good, based on a true story
Rank the ethnicities
My dude, you’re leaving something out. How do you even get accused of that?
The current KKK is more like a cult rather than a party, they’re just the remnants of what used to be a massive and openly accepted nationalist group originating from the Southern confederacy. The abolition of slavery and amendments to the constitution caused them to go into remission.
They’re still active and spread all across the country, especially the old confederate states. But not to the degree of being an open extremist group. Now are more like a cultish group which passes their traditions and beliefs within their communities.
First off, people says dumb shit. I’ve been accused of being racist for being a white guy with a buzz cut too, it’s just ignorant, don’t worry about it.
As for how the KKK function, not very well. One of my favorite examples of how dumb the KKK is the story of how the fictional character Superman actually massively weakend the real world KKK. TLDR, an investigate reporter infiltrated the KKK go learn there secrets, and learned that they had a bunch of dumb secret rituals and code words and pointless titles and stuff. He compared it to little kids playing spy. He then gave all of this information to a Superman radio show, who used it to make a storyline ridiculing the KKK so much that little kids started making fun of it too, so massive numbers of members started leaving, because they didn’t want to be the subject of ridicule from their own kids.
Another great example of this is the feature length movie Black Klansman, which tells the true story of an black police officer in the 70’s that lead an undercover investigation of the Klan.
The ranks within the Klan literally sound like shit out of Dungeons & Dragons, such as “grand wizard” and “high dragon.” They deserve to be mocked and ridiculed until they’re too embarrassed to wear their bedsheets anymore. They know that shit is embarrassing already, that’s why the cowards hide their faces.
What series of events left to this accusation? I’m not saying this to point fingers, I’m just curious.
I’ve worked for several people who were in the KKK. They all tried to get me to “go to church” with them after they spouted off progressively more racist jokes/comments. Some were more open about it than others, but it always started with something small.
Looking back, I was working those jobs because I was in a rough spot so I couldn’t really push back on their remarks. * Edit, I just wonder if someone interpreted something you said or joked about as, well, racist. Right or wrong, idk I wasn’t there. Times are scary these days, that’s all I know.
It’s just a club for racist assholes that runs like any other club.
I find it a little hard to believe that someone who’s spent any time in America wouldn’t know anything at all about the KKK. Like, I don’t live in America, and learned about the KKK in multiple high school history classes.
From what I imagine, they function similarly to you, in that they eat, sleep, shit, fuck etc.
Beyond that, their social identities and how they present themselves are tied to white supremacy, hate, racism, Christo-fascism etc.
Because many will only reveal themselves in Klan regalia with the hood/mask, they have anonymity. This probably helps some blend in with normal people when they aren’t with their Klan friends.
Unfortunately they’ve been around for 160 years. Some people hate, some people are dumb, when you hate and you’re dumb, you join these kinds of groups
They don’t really. It’s not a very organized group nowadays. Just a bunch of localized yahoos.
I mean they generally dont function. There’s maybe like 3-5000 of them total in a pop of 350+million people so a drop in the bucket
I mean, that’s kinda why they’re on the fringes and a vast, vast majority of people don’t like them. Because their ideology is something that is repellant to normal people to the point that it’s hard to even reconcile how someone gets to where they are.
The KKK doesn’t exist as a unified group anymore, and hasn’t for decades. Nowadays, they’re small, localized groups of racist assholes who are more of a nuisance (comparatively), then the terrorist organization they used to be.
This video is about neo-nazis specifically, but the framework is the same. From an ex Neo-Nazi.
You’re totally in the KKK
They function kind of like an early 2000’s Halo LAN party
What did you do to be accused of being in the kkk?
After reading some of your comments OP, I think I have an answer.
They don’t function well. Most of the “meetings” are more like a Moose Lodge meeting. It’s a bunch of friends getting together and being openly racist without fear. Beer and pizza and shooting the shit.
They try and get people to come to meetings through flyers or direct mail. They use icons to show their intent rather than directly saying it.
Racists don’t work on any “logic” because racism boils down to “I don’t like that person because of something they can’t change makes them different to me”, which has no logic.
They hate watch a lot of stuff because they are all about hate. And power. Cause even in “whitetown” there’s a hierarchy.
It’s about having a scapegoat or effigy to burn.
“It’s the purple people’s fault I don’t make enough”.
And politicians take advantage of that and help the cycle going because hate moves more than love.
There’s two quotes that help explain this:
“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.” -Lyndon B Johnson, 36th President.
“The average Howard Stern fan listens for an hour and twenty minutes. The average Stern hater listens for two and a half hours a day.” -from the movie Private Parts about Howard Stern.
The first rule of 👻👻👻 club is the damned hat.
Don’t carpool to those things.
Idk you’re the one whose in it educate us hehehe
I’m noticing a pattern in most of these comments. White peoples being normal and then called racist for being.
Sooner than later whites are going to just go with the Eminem song: “I am whatever you say I am”
The word Racist. It’s played out.
Words. There is however one word that makes people go bananas.
You’re a wizard, Harry!
ok but to be fair….you still haven’t said you AREN’T in the kkk….so……
Question for the OP; How old was the person accusing you of being in the KKK?
Context: Back in the 90’s the KKK in specific and racist hate groups in general were a thing I read a lot about. Even did some research papers on them in university (nothing thesis level, but it was a morbid fascination).
In 2025 the answer of how the KKK functions is pretty much what others have said. Today’s KKK is a shadow of its past self, and we can all be glad about that. In the 90’s it was fading but still relevant as an idea more than as a reality. The actual Klan groups had fewer numbers and less political power by then, but their imagery still carried a lot of power among racists. So the power and numbers of folks who actually wore the hoods was a lot less, but the concept still inspired a lot of independent racists. Post mid-20th century the Klan had fractured into multitudes of smaller independent Klans, initially to make itself harder for the federal government to shut them down, but ultimately diluting their unity, which was a good thing for the rest of us.
The farther back you go in the 20th Century, into the era of the 2nd Klan, the more overtly powerful they were. In 1925 the KKK marched in Washington DC with an estimated 50,000 people. The second era of the Klan started in 1915. The original Klan was broken in 1871.
How they function today is a diluted version of how they functioned in the late 20th century, a bunch of independent cells, with their own memberships and leaderships, and a fraction of their old numbers. They rely on the shreds of their old mythology and reputation to inspire hate. Mind you, that doesn’t mean that hate groups have decreased in number, if anything they’ve increased in the last 10 years, just that the Klan By That Name are a shadow of their former influence.
How they function in their cause today is the same as other racist hate groups; they promote fear in minority groups by letting those people know that an unknown number of people with an unknown amount of power are watching and waiting to attack them. And they let people they think will be their allies know that they Have Friends who will Help Them against their Unfair Subhuman Enemies. And when you repeat that long enough people will ask, “who are these enemies responsible for my problems?” And then the hate group supplies the answer, by naming a minority group and making crap up about how they’ve rigged life against the white folks who are having problems.
Circling aaaaaalll the way back to my original question, I’ve seen mention that the OP is bald and has tattoos. In the 80’s and 90’s there was a major offshoot of the KKK called the Skinheads, whose aesthetic was co-opting punk rock clothing, shaving their heads (natch) and lots of tattoos. Their ink was, of course, racist as hell, but the normie public of that era when body ink wasn’t mainstream often didn’t see a difference. So if the person accusing the OP was a Gen-X there’s a chance they assumed Skinhead and KKK, and if a Boomer that becomes even more likely.
I’ve never really looked into them either, so take this as just speculation… but I imagine the leadership keeps members angry and focused on hating “outsiders” so they don’t start questioning the group itself — or the people running it. Classic tactic. And yeah, I’d bet a good chunk of those dues go toward funding the leadership’s personal lifestyles. It’s a pretty simple, nasty formula — stir up hate, collect loyalty (and money), and keep people distracted.
You’re not overreacting. Finding a provocative photo is concerning, but his reaction — gaslighting you, flipping the blame, and remotely wiping the iPad — is an even bigger red flag. People who have nothing to hide don’t panic and erase devices. That behavior, combined with the deleted texts from his ex last year, shows a pattern of secrecy and avoidance whenever he’s caught.
You’re not crazy for checking the photos app on a shared device, especially when you’d have no issue with him doing the same. Trust goes both ways, and his response shows he’s more focused on covering his tracks than reassuring you. You’re right to question things.
