I want to get into law enforcement but when I was 19 my older brother and I got into a fight with eachother and when the cops came they ended up taking me but the charge was dropped completely. I am 30 now and have turned my life around. I hope departments can see this was something silly between my brother and I when I was still a teenager and there was no conviction.
I was arrested for Domestic violence when I was 19

As long as you disclose it, I don’t see why it would be an issue as it’s been 11 years now.
If I’m not mistaken, I believe a domestic violence charge is a disqualifier period (not being convicted may make a difference). Things may vary state by state but in Colorado, domestic violence is a POST disqualifier let alone a department. It’s also something that prohibits you from owning a firearm per federal and more than likely state law which means you wouldn’t be eligible regardless.
My suggestion, see if you can get it expunged. I know that law enforcement can still view expunged records, especially for employment purposes but considering it’s been so long and if you can provide a solid case on how you’ve changed your life around, there is always a chance. I know that expunging a domestic violence charge is also an obstacle itself but it’s worth the long road ahead if you truly want a shot.
Good luck to you!
Nah you’ll be good. Be honest about it, enough time elapse and as long as you don’t have anything else crazy. Apply to multiple agencies too.
I’m shocked no one else has said this but it might vary by state. A brother on brother fight, at least here in California, is not domestic violence at all. Are you sure it was domestic violence? What state are you from?
Everyone who has ever had a brother has gotten into a fight with them. Let them know and you should be fine if that’s all it was and it was dropped. Any department that doesn’t take you after that probably isn’t worth going to anyway.
