I know you said you don’t remember anything but does that include people?
When you say everything, do you really mean EVERYTHING???
Did you remember how to speak and knowledge you’ve gained throughout life like for instance when the revolutionary war happened ?
What fact of your life did you find most surprising or shocking? Does any “new” information feel familiar to you? Or do you think “why would ‘me’ do that, that doesn’t sound right”
Does your old post history help jog your memory?
How did you rediscover Reddit? 👀
Well im happy you remembered enough to know what reddit is!
You at least remember the English language and how to type, also use a computer or phone.
Why do you think you remember these things and nothing else?
Do you remember you owe me 5 bucks?
Hey, a fellow amnesiac. We should chat sometime!
What do you think your relationship with carrots are given your username?? Have you tried them since? How are they… carrot boi?
And send your redacted med paperwork with your ICD 10 diagnosis from the hospital.
If you have a job, how did that work? Did you walk back in with no knowledge, or was it instinct?
Which specific part of the head was injured?
Does the “4 month old” version of you like the pre-crash version of you? Or, are there differences in tastes/interests/personalities before and after?
Did you eat something/drink/smoke then, and now don’t? Anything of that nature?
What about food? Do you seem to be liking the same foods that you are told, you used to like? Also, does tasting common foods seem like you’re trying them for the first time?
It’s cool because when you ask most people who they are they will start to explain things they do and memories of things they’ve done but that’s not who you are. The person in the backseat watching your brain do all of that is you. It’s a hard concept to comprehend but you having lost memories but maintaining language I have to ask
TLDR: what’s your moral code like? Do you find things inherently bad? Like lying; stealing or even small white lies for self benefit
Do you have a different personality as far as you can tell? Anything has made you feel like “wtf would I like/do that”?
Did you lie and make up stuff for attention before the accident or did that only happen since the crash ?
You’ve obviously retained the ability to read and write. And you said you can do “mental math” but I’m not sure what that means. Do you know what percentages are? Fractions? Pi? Seems like other fundamental concepts from your education must still be there. Did someone have to explain gravity?
How’s the relationship with your gf going? Do you think you will stay with her? Do you feel like she’s a stranger or are you guys able to still kiss and cuddle?
Did you fall out of love with anyone friends, family , spouse?
Okay, bit of a weird question, but did you have to relearn how to wipe??
Are you rediscovering things like tv shows/ movies, hobbies ect? I couldn’t imagine watching so much great stuff again for the first time or rediscovering a hobby for the first time
Do you miss the memories you can’t remember? Like do you have a longing to remember but can’t?
Is how you feel uncomfortable? Not physically, but mentally? (I do hope you’re recovering physically well!!)
Thanks for letting me ask. I can’t begin to imagine what you’re going thru
When you woke up, did they have to teach you how to use cutlery, take a bath and basic things like speaking, reading and writing?
Has anything started coming back to you? Or total blank? Did you not recognize family and friends at first but then start to get some recognition?
Does looking at the pre accident things make you feel like you’re trying to get to know a stranger? Or like a you from another reality?
Do you remember 9/11 happening? Are there any big historical events thats widely known that you dont ever recall happening? Like the Holocaust?
So you dont remember any of your childhood, but you’re able to read and understand things that I assume you learned in childhood?
Do you have a TBI?
One advantage now might be not remembering negative or traumatic experiences.
Have been any interesting drugs been tried on you? Does listening to old music produce any feelings?
I read a good book where this happened to the main character. “The Caretaker” by CP Harrrrisssss (I had to edit it because it flagged it for being political 😂). I wish you well in your recovery!
From some of your answers, it seems like you do have some subconscious memories such as how particular particular people make you feel or what note cokes next in a song you knew how to play on the piano before the accident. What have you been told about the likelihood more memories will return to your awareness?
What did you feel when you realized you did not recall anything from the past the minute you woke up?
What has been the hardest thing for you since your accident?
This happened to me after my crash at 12 years old.
I can’t remember a thing, but I remembered the abuse I suffered from my dad.
Everything was brand new, but when I saw him for the first time again I was anxious as anything.
Do you feel weird when you go back and look at things you used to say/do? I’d imagine it’s kind of like re reading an old diary.
I highly recommend that you watch the movie Memento!
Have you seen the show Severance? You’re basically the “innie” version of your pre-accident self.
Retrograde amnesia
What’s it like waking up as a blank slate but with all of the hardware of a full grown human? Like being able to read, speak, basically doing all the things you were able to do before. I’ve imagined that it’s what AI will feel like if it ever reaches spontaneous self awareness. Like having all this intelligence all of a sudden from a perceived starting point of just waking up, never having any memory of learning how to do all these things
Did you have any mental health issues before? Like anxiety or depression or anything like that?
If so, do you still?
Do you think you will regain any memories? Have you regained any?
Amnesia doesn’t work like that mate
Is it scary / frustrating being aware that you can’t remember?
A big part of my fear of death is not necessarily the process of going through it and the uncertainty of what happens next, but the uncertainty of knowing my current self existed at all… It’s weird to explain…
Hi. Thanks so much for doing this. Did you have to relearn how to speak? Did you have to relearn about your culture or history or what every day objects are called? Your own name? Sorry for so many questions. Wishing you the best!
How did you know your family? How did you understand Reddit and other socials, and your place in those ecosystems?
Have you struggled with depersonalization at all since the accident? From what I understand, it felt like you just popped into existence knowing how to do stuff?
Have you reread a book you know uou have read before (novel fiction)?
Have you seen a movie you know you must have seen before?
What about a famius movie from your childhood? Trigger any memories?
Do certain smells trigger memories?
Perfume/cologne? Cooking smells? Baked desserts smells?
Are you experiencing any grief because of this? It sounds scary. Refreshing on some level. But heartbreaking on a multitude of others. Or is it not heartbreaking because you don’t know what you aren’t remembering?
I was in a pretty crazy car accident. It was snowing and a deer ran out I swerved lost control ended up 12 ft up in a tree. Now rewind. I do not even remember getting in the car to start my destination. I don’t remember the whole day up until I woke up in the car. Like that’s where my memory starts. I didn’t even remember the deer a witness that helped me out the car told me that. It’s scary how something can knock a memory or thought right out of your whole conscious. It fucks me up if I just try to remember anything in that day. It’s like a bright white wall dead end can’t won’t let me think of anything about that day. I can only imagine if it effected more than just my memory from that day. Which it probably has and I just didn’t notice yet. But it’s been 10 years and I still didn’t get one more memory of that day. Sorry. I know how it sucks just not being able to think of one day I can’t think of what it be like for more
How did you so quickly remember how technology works? Posting a AMA on Reddit seems so, not second nature… How did it feel going through your previous social media? Are you embarrassed of your past self?
Are you sad that you don’t remember your old life? I feel like I would feel so overwhelmed not having all those beautiful memories from the past?
I find it interesting how memory can be lost but language might not be. Idk how to ask this question, but how were you able to know what to do after you woke up or how to speak or write or type? If you don’t know how, how did it feel? Did it just come or did you have to slowly get back to speaking normally? Knowing what to do, I mean, also, like opening your phone and knowing how it works and scrolling. How to read the words.
This is kinda sensitive you don’t have to answer
Do you have anyone in your family who has passed? If so, does it hurt a little less now that you don’t remember them unless someone reminds you “oh uncle “bob” passed already I’m sorry”. Sometimes I wish I could forget how my dad died so if someone said he’s just on a long vacation I’d believe them. Maybe I won’t have ptsd anymore
Anyway, good luck with your recovery! ❤️🩹
Which thing made you the most surprised and excited to know after your accident?
That is terrible! I hate to bring this up but do you have the $1000 I let you borrow right before the accident? Sorry just kidding people!
Do you find that you enjoy the things (activities, hobbies, etc.) that you apparently liked before the car crash?
Have you thought about checking your history on different apps?
For instance, your post and comment history on reddit can say alot about you. I found on your Reddit profile that you like(d) blackbear (artist – singer) on Spotify and your dad supports Liverpool football team.
What is it like “meeting” people for the first time? You have comments about Your parents, gf, etc. How are you able to maintain those relationships and continue with them if you essentially don’t know them at all
That sounds bad but on the flip side so many movies, tv shows and games to re-experience
Have you had any dreams that were related to your past memories at all?
How sad were your family and friends when they found out
is that something reversible? what did the doctor say about this condition? have you permanently lost your memory or it may come back one day with a good chance? also how did that happen? i get it was a car crash but where and how did you hit your head to cause this?
Do you remember the pandemic?
Do you remember things like significant world events such as 911, Iraq War, Bali Bombing, Christ Church Massacre, Covid-19 ?
What about smaller positive things like Gangnam Style, Ice Bucket Challenge, Annoying Orange, Crazy Frog, the rise and fall of “Nickleback” ?
Most interesting ama I’ve read in a while
what was your reaction to the state of the world we live in
how bad was recovering ass passcodes and pins and whatever the fuck
After living in the world for some time now, does the concept of religion make sense to 4-month old you?
Do you still like Blackbear?
Do you remember how to drive a car?
Do you struggle with the fact the old you is gone?
Im sure your family are really glad you survived but they are probably mourning the old you in a way too ? Must be tough/complex.
Like do you have a sense of loss for your old self or does it not really affect you that much because you dont remember ?
Does your mind wander a lot when you’re doing nothing, or what kind of thoughts occupy your mind?
When you say you don’t remember anything.
Do you mean like memories? Like you remember who your mum is – just not spending time with her?
And do you remember knowledge – like do you remember how to drive, even basic things like how a fridge holds cold food?
Were you religious before, are you now?
Was anything like speech, or basic movements of your body forgotten? Many people who lose so much memory forget such things as well
Do you find yourself “relearning” things you knew prior faster or is it still as if you’re fully relearning a topic?
Ex. If you knew how to do Calculus but struggled in Physics, is relearning Calculus easier than the Physics?
Do you believe that your brain or a higher power took you away momentarily before the crash and impact, and that’s why you don’t remember it?
I was in a pretty bad accident with a bat and the back of my head. I forgot how to walk and everything. I still try to remember things about the accident, I was told reliving the accident allows for the neuron to fire and jump start. Have you tried anything like that? Like meditation or past life regression?
