I was raised by hippie dippy parents in Oregon. No vaccines, was born at home, homeschool for 16 years etc. I have since received all of my vaccinations. Always wanted to share my story.
I was unvaccinated for the first 18 years of my life. AMA.

So did you catch a lot of disease as a child? Or something you should have been vaccinated against?
How well were you homeschooled?
I have a friend who homeschools their children.. but I presume doesn’t actually do any kind of schooling.
So, now that you’re autistic
/s
When did your beliefs start to differ from your parents and why? How did they react?
What’s your relationship with your parents like now and how do they feel about the way public health is going at present
How are you alive.
How can two people with advanced degrees be stupid enough to choose to not vaccinate their children.
Did you get all your vaccines at once or did you space them out? How did you feel physically after getting the polio vaccine?
Are you an organ donor?
What made you come to the conclusion to get vaccinated?
that’s crazy.
I know four people who are completely unvaccinated from childhood- now in their 30s+40s and they are the HEALTHIEST people I’ve ever known. The most robust immune systems, and one of them has never even had a flu in her life. Just for the people saying how are you alive… in my experience, unvaxd people are so much healthier.
Do you think there’s effective ways to try to persuade parents who are worried about the effects of vaccines, or do they have to change their own minds?
Congratulations on making it 18 years!
Are you from Ashland lmao
My niece and nephew are unvaccinated and very healthy and athletic. My daughter had a terrible reaction to the MMR. Ended up in the hospital. I finally held off on some vaccinations. They are all college students now and doing fine.
I need a dog sitter for 9 days in December. Are you available?
Do you feel your parents endangered your life at all?
What led to your decision to get vaccinated later in life?
Did you have titer test before all of the vaccinations?
Were you offered protocol options for vaccine scheduling or did you receive everything at once?
Did you elect to receive any additional vaccines that weren’t part of standard recommendation (like HPV)?
Are you more or less autistic than the average person????
Have you read Educated?
Home schooling has evolved and there are opportunities for an excellent education. Many groups have developed cooperatives that arrange for excellent teachers-totally non religious.
Not too many questions because I also wasn’t vaccinated until I was 18. Mostly chiming in to say hi! Have your parents changed their views at all over time? My mom recently apologized to me in light of the current measles outbreak. Dad is still extremely anti-vax. I work in public health now, so that makes Thanksgiving fun, lol.
Did you have a culture shock after transitioning from homeschool to public school?
How do you view their choice to not vaccinate you? Has it altered your perception of them in any way?
This is fascinating to see another perspective of someone who was raised in a somewhat similar environment – I was also raised by deadheads who didn’t believe in vaccines. I did however go to public school and was constantly sick. I got all my vaccinations once I went to college but I’m dealing with lasting chronic health issues now.
Did your family’s social circle also consist of anti-vaxxers? If so, have their adult children made similar decisions to proceed with getting vaccinated or have most stayed unvaccinated?
Same goes, although I was born to Iraqi parents in the 80s who just didn’t have funding and we lived far from a lot of things, got my jabs at 23 in Egypt
Did they use drugs?
Did you enjoy being homeschooled or did you feel like you missed out?
How many different vaccines have you now taken?
You said you chose to go to public school in your junior year (I’m assuming highschool), what made you make that decision? Was it a fight with your parents to be able to go?
I know quite a few homeschool kids and I feel like a lot of them don’t k ow how to respect authority. Like their parents teach them but they don’t have to sit in a classroom and be respectful even when they don’t want to
That being said, a lot of public school kids don’t respect authority either
Did you have a learning curve when you went to a classroom in terms of how to behave?
Omg twinning!! I had to file those religious vaccine exemptions because I wasn’t homeschooled though. I’m ALMOST fully vaccinated now but not quite. Ironically because of all my health issues, I do take vaccines pretty hard and have a lot of aches and fatigue most times. Haven’t gotten cancer, autism, or a developmental disability yet though, believe it or not.
Do you listen to the Dead? Heading to the sphere at all?
My roommate has a similar story: moved out around 16 and got all of her vaccines then. Was it expensive to get the vaccines or covered by insurance or public health? Here in my part of Canada most are covered by public health (we even got some vaccines at school) but I know the US is very different.
My sister is planning to do this to her kids, her first is 13 months old. Any thoughts on advice or things I could tell her?
Are your parents very strong anti vaccine or more like eh, we dont want that.
