I’m 18 and from Ireland. When I was 14, I joined a foreign exchange student programme and I went to the philippines to stay with a host family. While I was staying there, we went to a beach. When we arrived at the beach, the family’s two daughters (both 12) went into a changing room to put on their swimsuits but I was told to strip completely naked. I refused but the girls’ mother called my mother and my mother told me to follow the rules and eventually I took all of my clothes off. The girls’ mother said it is normal for boys to be completely naked when at the beach and swimming in the philippines. There was five other kids on the beach (three girls and two boys) and both boys were naked.

Your mom said to just follow the rules, wtf is wrong with her, it’s your body. Sounds like a lot of SA happens there especially for children. That is very strange, i feel very sorry for you.
they took you to a nude beach? bruh, weirdos
Brother I was born and raised in the Philippines and I’ve never heard of this shit. It’s not a local custom, you might be a victim lmao.

Whoever took you just wanted to see your little shmeckle.
My Japanese exchange family didn’t warn me about their onsen tradition. One minute I’m unpacking, next thing I know I’m stark naked with my host mom and sisters like it’s totally normal. Most awkward yet character-building moment of my life.
Creepy
Im so sorry that they did that to you. That’s just sick and wrong (to make you do that) and the fact that your mother made you do it is even worse!!
I know we here in America or less free with showing our bodies than you guys are in Europe however, if one of my boys would have called and told me that I would’ve gotten on a plane and went and picked them up, that’s just not right, especially if you’re not comfortable with it if it’s a custom they’re used to and they’re comfortable with it. I guess that’s on them and their parents, but the fact that you were uncomfortable and they made you do it anyway was not on you again it’s on them.
Sorry you were made to feel uncomfortable
I am so sorry they did this to you. You’re a minor at that time and 14 is not too young to be naked on the beach. What I mean is, normally, kids who are naked on the beach are very very young like 4-5 years old (coz kids older than that are ashamed to be naked already). I hope they realize that they’re wrong! These people r really sick 🤢
Bra what kind of confession is this. Yes people get naked! You were born naked! What’s to confess?
And you posted this issue to 3 different subs? And those are your only posts?
Moderators – ban this guy
Sounds kind of sexist and not equal at all in my opinion 🤷 let’s just remove all the choice for one gender, but not the other? Why are males REQUIRED to do it when it’s optional for females?
Not to mention being asked to strip, then having my mommy called….lol that lady can get fucked. Just go back home, it’s an exchange trip not prison.
Also, women are stoned to death in the Middle East for not covering their whole bodies in cloth. I’m assuming your mother would agree with that and to “follow the rules” right??
Culture shock. It’s pretty normal to be naked in public regardless of your age in many countries.
People in Nordic countries who enjoy Sauna from a young age go in there naked. Everybody has seen everybody else naked.
That shit is not normal in the Philippines
this Onsens are sex segregated. Worth visiting one but read up on etiquette first – you go in to a changing room, pop your clothes away. Wash in their designated wash area then enjoy a hot bath with a bunch of other folk. If you’re lucky this will be surrounded by nature and fed by natural hot spring.
Damn im sorry you haf to go through that! Your mom should have protected you and said its better for you to choose what to wear in the beach or smth ..
I work with Philippines girl. I’ll ask her
Have you spoken to your mom about it? This sounds traumatic. What was the reasoning? If you didn’t feel comfortable they should have let you stay at home
What weird shit is this?? I am born and bred there but never heard of that.
just curious, did you go for an international exchange via AIESEC?
From my research, that doesn’t make sense. I’ve never been, but accordingly, I’ve learned that the Philippines is a VERY conservative country? Maybe it was a smaller area where that has been normalized, but in bigger areas, there’s no such thing, along with the fact that there are ABSOLUTELY NO public nude beaches, only private resorts. Crazy confession!
Is there anymore context on this? They should understand that it is abnormal for you and give explanation as to why.
I grew up towards adulthood in the Philippines, been to a lot of provinces thanks to my father’s work, and never heard nor seen this ‘rule,’ especially not for anyone older than a toddler. The only time I’ve witnessed such a thing was in squatter’s area during medical/dental charity event wherein some boys and girls were brought butt naked while getting free check up. Judging from where the parents live (karitela or literally a box), they probably just don’t have money to buy clothes for those children.
You’ve told this story before I’m other places.
So yes, when you’re very young in the Philippines, I can totally see the boys swimming naked and it’s not a big deal over there. It really depends on the area but at 14 years old I think this is a little too old to still be naked and swimming.
Irish cursed?
Seems odd. So what are the rules if you get excited because me at that age it would have been more likely than not.
I grew up in the Philippines and this is def not normal there.
I was born in a small rural island in the Philippines, its normal in here to do that, I mean we did it when we were kids. It’s usually to save laundry, after u finish swimming u can wear your clothes again. It also happens when we go to a far away beach and forget to bring extra clothes, we just strip naked, go swim, and then put the clothes on back after
Your mom sucks. Time to have a talk with her and tell her how she failed you. You should not have been forced to strip naked in front of near strangers and the public at 14. She should have defended you and just taken you out of that situation. what kind of host mom calls the child’s mother and complains that a young teen isn’t walking around naked? You have every right to be indignant.
Filipino here 👋 Yes, it does happen, mostly in the province. I grew up in a seaside community down south and I remember my childhood being full of “naked adventures” swimming not only in the sea and river, but in public fountains as well whenever it rains. 😁 Public nudity may seem taboo for most Filipinos, but my experience growing up in the south was entirely different. The culture of public baths is pretty common here as well. You’ll find people taking a shower on the side of the streets where water pumps and wells are located. No matter how religious and conservative people are here, you’ll still see different types of nudity on a daily basis, even full frontal nudity.😂
Edit: You we’re 14? That’s not normal for that age to be naked in public. I stopped swimming naked when I was 8. There’s something wrong about your host family, especially the mother. I bet she wanted to see how an Irish willy looks like. I hope you weren’t traumatized by that weird experience.
i was about to say “baby you is a victim…”
Yes I was born in the Philippines but grew up in the USA. I was there as a kid.
I’m
I’d never forgive my mom for telling me to go along with that.
This exact thing was posted months ago. Karma farmer
“When in Rome, do as Romans do.”
This is weird what sort of cult did the belong to
Ja
Born and raised here, grew up in the city of Cebu. This is normal for street/poor kids. But only at ages below 8 years old. They’d be in the beach so much their hair turns orange/blonde. But i saw both sexes swim naked growing up. It’s just coz it was more convenient than having to bring extra dry clothing after you swim. They can’t afford swimsuits. But yeah, never older than 8 or 9 years old… sorry this happened to you. There may not be any malice to it, Some Filipinos have just done things the same way for years or saw it done that way and she probably genuinely thinks that’s how it should be. If you mentioned you had a swimsuit, she might have just let you use it. or might have asked you what it was. Lol. Filipinos are a very accommodating people.
The exchange mom and esp your OWN mom should have let you wear what you were comfortable in. If the exchange mom insisted you go naked, your mom should have told you to keep your clothes on and not to go in the water. Sorry you felt uncomfortable.
Anyone else experience this and get a boner?
