If a man does something stupid it’s because he’s an idiot. If a woman does the same it’s because she’s a woman

I really need to stop looking through comment sections.

I’m quite introverted and isolated and come from a pretty liberal area, so haven’t really experienced much sexism in my day to day life, aside from one or two family members.

But comment sections really are showing me how prevalent this attitude really is.

You look under any video of a woman doing something stupid, and there’s already an army of men beneath it ready to blame it on her gender. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the opposite. If a man does something stupid he’s just an idiot.

Alternatively, there are videos of people doing something stupid where you don’t really see the person doing it, and there’s always a large chunk of comments assuming the culprit must be a woman.

    Yeah

This is actually a pretty recognized issue for every minority. The majority tends to see the bad behavior of one as representative of the entire group. A perfect example is the current conservative BS towards trans people post shooter the other week. All trans people are dangerous but when a cis/het white man does it they’re just a lone damaged rogue.

Same deal for how they perceive women. I hate it. All it takes is some empathy and critical thinking to grow past that mentality but well, both seem to be in really short supply. 🙄

egalitarianism demands we consider men idiots, then.

… I mean men are generally considered the dumber gender tho. It’s a major trope in media.

Man, totally with ya on this. It’s high time ppl stop the whole “dumb cuz it’s a girl, just dumb if it’s a guy” crap. We’re all idiots sometimes – gender ain’t got nothin’ to do with it! Smh at folks not getting this. I mean yeah, we all screw up, but that ain’t a gendered thing, it’s called being human. Let’s keep it real, folks. 100% agreed, this needs change, pronto.
