If a new God appeared and performed miracles for every person on earth and declared all other religions false, would the false religions accept this?

Comments
Unlikely, many would likely label this “new god” a demon of evil spirit trying to trick them away from their faith
Nah, everyday the human capacity for delusion surpasses my expectations.. people already know what they believe and nothing can change that for some
Testing somebody’s faith tends to reinforce it.
The described event would probably sway people who are “on the fence” about religion, but people who have already decided what to believe will mostly hold to it.
‘Make miracles great again!’
They would just declare it to be the devil.
They’d probably scramble to argue that this new god was their old god all along.
Best case scenario, you’d just get the religion version of this https://xkcd.com/927/
There’s a prophecy like this….
They would have 100% more proof than any current religions so. It’s kind of hard to argue against.
Even though we know the world is round there are still people who believe it’s flat, so no. There will always be people who will do mental gymnastics to not believe the obvious.
No religion is proven. If God did all of this, then God would be part of the natural world
According to millions of people that has already happened.
If the Democrats somehow managed to bring world peace balance the budget and fix the economy right now, do You think Republicans would all flip sides? People believe what they believe and they’re happier looking for evidence to back up what they believe then they are accepting that their beliefs were wrong.
That shit was AI.
There is only one god with many faces.
A lot of religions have some form of anti-God or an evil force so Christians for example may think that’s the devil trying to sway them from their faith in their true God.
What’s to say this god is telling the truth?
Think about it critically for a second, perform miracles and say they’re the only god is what the abrahamic god does.
In our current understanding of the universe it might make sense to doubt that god existed or exists, the miracles and creation story don’t mesh with physics nature, etc.
If a being shows up and changes that understanding, then the only difference between that god and the new one is that you are witnessing the new one and other people centuries ago said they witnessed that one.
I think if a new god showed up and said they were the only god, I’d be more inclined to think other gods exist some of them just like lying about being the only one.
lol absolutely fucking not.
The old religions would prlly call that person the antichrist.
All false religions likely would, though in Christianity that sounds like the Anti-Christ.
The Bible says he basically proclaims himself as god, and defiles the Holiest of holies.
What happens behind the scenes of powerful government may even be hidden from the general public in this sort of manner. We wouldn’t know the world elite operations unless they willingly choose to make it known to society.
If they were to announce or make public something like that, it will likely be the moment Satan decides to make his move, and when the Tribulation takes place.
No. There’s already a “fail-safe” against that (built into christianity anyway). The new guy would be identified as the devil.
If they’re smart, they’ll incorporate it into their religion like christianity and dinos.
Imo the only people who would be converted are agnostics. Everyone else would disbelieve what happened or say the new God was malicious/meant to test their faith.
I mean, if Jesus himself came back, I feel like Christians would kill him all over again. A new God showing up would not bode well for anyone.
Doubtful, if the people following those religions were rational there wouldn’t be any religions.
That would be a hard, NO! The “old” religion, let’s just use Christianity as an example. Has not been about God or Jesus for a long time now. So to take away that legitimacy. Would mean nothing at this point. Remember a lack of his presence. It only a test in your faith in him. Also you got to remember. The Bible never denies other gods. It only says that you may only follow the “true god”. for them to use “true god” to describe their god. Means there are other gods. Just the other gods are just not the “true god”.
I can already imagine this as the plot of a Netflix movie with 42% on Rotten Tomatoes
Of course not, because religion is about power. And this would take the spiritual leaders’ power, so it would be a bad calculation to accept it.
No.
And if/when Jesus or any other God returns they will most likely be shunned by their own followers.
No, most wouldn’t accept it. People are loyal to their beliefs and would find ways to explain it away or resist.
Sounds like proof my God exists, because as you can now see miracles are real.
humans are incredibly good at ignoring reality when it threatens their identity. even if a new god performed miracles right in front of them, many would deny it, rationalize it, or call it evil — not because they genuinely believe it’s fake, but because admitting they were wrong would break who they are. faith isn’t just belief. it’s self.
That’s interesting, I was taught when Jesus returns it will be the end of the world so that would be self explanatory but if someone appeared claiming to be a “new god” I would assume it was the anti christ
This is literally the plot of the Book of Revelation: a Beast appears and starts performing miracles, and demands everyone worship it and accept its mark.
Surprise! Turns out it’s a false god, and if you did take its mark, it’s the Lake of Eternal Fire for you.
So I’m going to guess the answer to your question is “no”, at least for Christians who know their Bible.
Kind of on a tangent, but in on of Arthur C Clarke’s novels there is a a backstory where Christ returns and performs a miracle by making it rain upwards (good trick). And as he does so then gets nuked by extremists. So probably that..
With the miracles performed by the current lot of gods being stuff like bending spoons, making some extra loaves of bread, and turning water into wine for someone’s wedding party, performing miracles for everyone would be a real upgrade!
Hello, have you met humans?
We were warned about false prophets.
The book of revelations details something like that happening
Interesting… islam prophecises exactly that
I question anything that says it is the only way. Rarely is there ever only one. That said miracles demonstrate a command of the universe we don’t understand. Gotta respect the ability.
The idea a god commands worshipping from beings as insignificant as us is a truly flawed idea in my head. Either everything has purpose or nothing does. And if worshipping you has a purpose we are being manipulated to provide something to the God without our consent and through a lens of faith.
That isn’t trust and faith. That is brainwashing.
And not worshipping being grounds for punishment makes the god spiteful. Again that puts far more worth on humans than we deserve or we are so necessary we have to be manipulated without room for choice.
I don’t believe in a forceful spiteful god. I believe in a god that loves and is thankless like many humans aspire to be. Because when we do something without reward or expectation, we respect others sense of free will.
I dunno about other religions, but I’d have more than a few ideas for the new god to consider.
No they’d kill him like the last one
Nope.
The core element of all religions is faith, i.e. unquestionning belief, belief in spite of what evidence, logic and your senses tell you. So it’s unlikely they’d all convert.
As long as they don’t suggest we “be nice to each other,” then we might not kill them.
No, they’d all claim that the entity is their version of the deceiver.
He’d be declared the Antichrist by Christians, and any other religions that have tales of a false deity signaling the apocalypse
You can’t really test a God’s qualifications unless you yourself are one. There’s no viable proof.
Nope. We would be directed to wear blue shiny suits and jump into volcanos
Christians would call this person the antichrist
Would probably depend on how obviously he does it. If it were something like what Jesus allegedly did, they probably wouldn’t. If it were something more obvious, like making the moon pink or something like that, some would probably
Yes, they would all hail the Flying Spaghetti Monster
In a way, this experiment has already been tried again and again. Colonial powers show up riding weird beasts, wielding unimaginably powerful weapons, bearing strange foods and clothing and skin colors . . . There are narratives about how they were presumed to be gods in some cases. But the colonialists still had to institute lots of laws and systems and abuses to forcibly convert the indigenous peoples who might have greeted them like gods.
Define god.
All religions are fantasies invented to explain the unknown
Time solves many things. Assuming this new god would stay eternally and continually bring about miracles for years to come, there will be a point where more people believe in this new god as opposed to their old ones because this one is tangible and evident. Newer generations would increasingly question “why not them?” Only to receive an answer that isn’t satisfactory. More and more people would flock to the new god over the years and currently existing religions would either need to change to adapt them into their scriptures, or sanction off all notions of the fact and slowly dwindle.
If the new god said “they’re wrong, it’s just a handful of stories” then that would do irreparable damage to them regardless of at which point in time they said that line. Either way, yeah, they’d have to make do or die.
I can’t apparently download the bullshit but they still sell it. But anyway tshirthell.com used to have a shirt that literally said “If Jesus comes back, we’ll just kill him again.”
That was in 2005. It’s 2025 and ain’t shit changed bruh.
It wouldn’t even have to be a new god. If study after study showed that prayer actually helped people recover, or if those a certain faith returned from death, or lived longer, people would start following that faith to the exclusion of others.
It doesn’t happen, though.
Lol no
Is this entity threatening punishment for not following it?
Some may. The Bible does say there will be a false prophet that does miracles and all that.
As an atheist, I’ve heard variations of the following:
If a god actually showed up in person and performed “miracles,” I would have no choice but to believe that god was real. But that doesn’t mean I’d worship it.
I’m not keen on the idea of worship in general. If an entity with unimaginable powers successfully demonstrated that they were real that doesn’t mean I would devote my life to them. But if evidence over time pointed towards that entity truly being benevolent, I may be willing to participate in some capacity in any plans for the betterment of humanity. Like if the “god” was cleaning up pollution and commanded that people should plant more trees, fuck yeah I’ll plant a few trees, but that doesn’t I’m going to permanently bind myself to their service.
Some would, some wouldn’t. Religions have been great at saying “Nono, what they believe in is a false god and actually just a demon disguising as a god”
Yes. Look how many people abandoned the major tenets of Christianity for the Republican Party. Look how many Catholics and Protestants hated Pope Francis for being humble, helping the poor, and preaching that Jesus loves everyone and hates no one.
If a God requires my validation to not be a dick they are a shitty God. Belief is not a requirement cause there’s literal proof that this advanced being by our standards exists in this scenario. Even with these presentable hypothetical facts, you cannot prove a negative and religious belief is entirely dependent on the fact proving this negative is impossible. These humans will continue to believe in their ineffective Gods.
any god that requires your worship is not a god but a clown.
I’m already here,
Turns out they just ignore you.
Gawd bless Murikkka
I’m a group of angels in the year 2000.
I’m still waiting for an old god to appear.
It depends on the religion, and where in the world they are. 100% american christians wouldnt believe it. christians elsewhere might.
The Flying Spaghetti Monster is performing miracles every day, but people keep insisting that there must be a rational explanation.
People nowadays wouldn’t even accept the new coming of their own god
It would all feed into their various conspiracies.
At least some people would still deny it
Lol no
No they will try to murder them to prove it’s false. MAGA Christians would shoot Jesus in the face for being a liberal
Only if they could monetize it.
No. This is written about almost verbatim in the Bible, in Revelations.
They currently have 0 evidence that their god exists already… proof isn’t what fuels them
Depends on what the miracles are
Could his first miracle be revealing Kenneth Copeland’s true form?
No because religion isnt based on logic but on pride and emotions and traditions.
No. At the end of the day, all religions are cults built on blind faith. They would claim they are a false prophet or a test of their faith.
I mean the way I see it, if god wants me to believe, I would. Yeah?
Doubtful, because religions today are more about making money and maintaining control than any actual faith.
The thought of losing that power and wealth by starting again at the same low level as everyone else in a new religion would put the willies up pretty much all the leaders of the main faiths.
It already happened. Science appeared and has answered so many questions, often disproving religion’s attempts at explaining the world. Science has healed the sick and raised billions of people from poverty.
The much more likely response would be “if this one is real, that proves ours is real, too”.
If you are a Christian, that’s legit a sign of the antichrist. It would reinforce their beliefs.
This new God will become my God. Always wanted to see some rl miracles. Especially if these miracles are beneficial to me
CLUE: All gods are imaginary. All religions are false.
People do not believe evidence that contradicts their positions.
Plot twist – It’s SKYNET…
All religion is false.
My cat says that my devotion and worship of him doesn’t have a cancellation policy.
Nope. Declare it’s a buncha tricks.
Miracles are just science we don’t yet understand.
All that matters is promoting the golden rule, seeking peace and love. If you can do that without a god, great. If your beliefs about your god lead you that way, great.
If you’re putting more effort into worshipping your god than into improving the lives of people, you haven’t found the right god. If your goal is everlasting life for yourself, and you think praising a deity is the way to get everlasting life, you’re worshipping a devil.
we’re gonna make the assertion that “miracles” performed by a tangible entity are proof of god(liness), but plenty of others would argue that the existence of tragedies is proof that god doesnt exist. both are horrible rationales IMO.
it’s supremely juvenile of people to denounce god by saying, “if god exists, why does youth cancer?” just like it would be supremely selfish of people to say, “i have a disease, therefore god doesnt exist.” it seems like everyone has a deeply personal view of god, that god would come down to earth and interact with the people on their own level, but a human could never get on an ant’s level despite crafting the ant farm.
additionally, sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic or “miracles.” science is our way of explaining natural phenomenon and it begs the question, “how much of reality can it explain?” just for argument’s sake, how many common techniques, tools, or procedures in today’s society would be viewed as miraculous by previous generations?
ROFLMAO – No. And those of us who are not religious and don’t think in terms of Gods and Goddesses wouldn’t likely accept it as a “God”, just a very powerful being with a bloated ego.
I’d bet people would say that the new god was actually their god and that all religions other than their religion is false, this claim would be made by most of the big religions.
New god would claim they are not “specific” religions god and are a new god but people would deny it and war would break out between the groups.
New god would stop these conflicts, people would turn on new god and try and Easter 2.0 them. New god smites these attempts, war breaks out again.
God stops these aggressions and further war breaks out as new god is seen as “smiting evil other religions”
God leaves and war breaks out again or humanity smites itself trying to convince each other that the new god is their god.
In a word, no.
I think it might depend on what these miracles are. Are they small thinks like turning water into wine or is it something like solving world hunger?
Nah, they would each just claim the new God as their God.
Always has been, same guy we’ve been telling you about, just a little different, now, see, because he’s a modern guy – times change, people change, God changes – why not?
New god is immediately labeled the antichrist or something and killed.
There are people that don’t believe in germs.
If Jesus Christ Himself returned to earth and began performing miracles, his own alleged followers would run him up a cross.
First, we would try to commoditize it. “Subscribe to gods newsletter. Never miss gods daily activities. Click here. $49.99 a month to sign up.
Nope. This situation is actually straight out of Revelation
They didn’t accept the first one. They crucified Him.
lol. The Christians believe the next guy who comes to do miracles and good (like solving the Mideast crisis or ending world hunger) is obviously the anti christ.
If God actually appeared, he would probably declare the opposite and unite every single religion, in the name of love, not control.
Yes, many will.
No
Is this a diss to the crusades? Or do I need to re-read my history of theocracy…
Would have to be some pretty crazy miracles to get the church and Islam on board
What an excellent question!
I would, I mean I’m a christian because I Believe Jesus did that stuff back then.
While the whole principle of it is faith, if I saw someone do stuff with my own eyes I would question a lot of things.
Paul warned the people of Thessalonika about this:
> For [the end of the world] not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction. He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God….
>This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them.
Jesus himself:
>“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
So, Bible-believing Christians would regard this individual as an agent of Satan.
Not a chance
They would probably label him the antichrist
Christians already planned for this by putting the antichrist in the book of revelations. Says he’ll be able to perform miracles.
Of course not , you can see various followers of all faiths argue against the teachings and tenants of their own faiths today let alone another faith movement
A miracle is just another word for magic. I’ve seen tons of magic tricks I don’t understand. Not sure if me not understanding a magic presentation is evidence to prove a deity.
Depends on the miracles.
There’s this book that discusses this very thing new guy shows up does a lot of medical miracles and claims to be the son of their god great read but the ending is a bit much. Long story short they don’t like his miracles and his teachings so they have him killed off for it.
Not if there is still money to be made.
Christianity is literally expecting such a character to show up, the antichrist will perform miracles and be worshipped as a god
Not the American Christians
Well if it’s like their gods it will destroy them for not believing
..probably not..
People don’t believe a sign that says “Wet Paint” and need to touch it. Doubt they would believe a God on earth
No they would just claim that he’s the false prophet(anti-christ) and try to kill him
Please define “other” religions. As written, it implies one of them is actually correct. Personally, I don’t believe any of them are. Their books were all written by mortals, with the intent to influence, or even control, other mortals. All their writings show mortal flaws, that a true “god” wouldn’t allow or accept. They all seem to have the same core beliefs, but then “man” gets involved and the messages get twisted, thus we have different sects.
Or, do you mean he declares that HIS religion is the only one that is correct. Meh, same answer. Please see above.
No, it would merely be a test of faith sent by their real God. Its why faith is such a powerful tool. It can’t ever be proven wrong.
Some people think the earth is flat…
The zealots and true believers. No.
They would spin it that this is their god in another guise or the work of the devil.
Ultra religious wars would then start.
Some would accept the new god.
Some would reject the new god as evil.
Some would twist things so that the new god is somehow actually the old god.
Either way i wanna know where the hell he/she/it’s been
Nope, because this supposed God has a lot to answer for all the evil he could have stopped but didn’t. Where was he during the Holocaust? Why do children die of cancer? So yeah, no, too little too late.
Didn’t Gene Roddenberry make a film about this?
Miracles for every person on earth? What a silly question.
I mean, didn’t that already happen and was a plot point in the Bible?
The anti christ.
I’m sure the Trumpers would be shouting “fake news!”
I mean an alleged God who can prove their power and existence. Sign me up.
Unless they are a cunt who wants to control my life in which case kill me then.
A good, kind, loving God would be wonderful. This world truly needs one.
It’s a shame we never had one and never will.
All our Gods have been man made and exist for control of the population. Nothing else.
doesnt even have to be a new god. were jesus to appear and he was to call the christians out on their bullshit, they’d assasinate him asap
No, because all religions are false and the leaders of the religions know that. It’s a huge, profitable, tax free business.
I’ve asked this very question of my uber Christian friends and it’s a unanimous: absolutely not.
