If anyone has saved your life, how did it happen?

r/

My example.

Was chilling in my room while my girlfriend was making dinner. Had a cherry coke with actual cherries. One stuck to the bottom of the glass, and I tilted it up trying to get to it.

Bad angle. Right down the windpipe.

Immediately couldn’t breath. I’ve had some training in this and knew the GOOD news was I had at least 45 seconds before this was an actual problem. Bad news. That’s not that long.

My girlfriend has worked with kids and had a bunch of training in basic life support. I ran through the house, ran into the kitchen, and slammed my palm into the wall twice, hard. She looked up surprised, but I Immediately put my hands up to my throat

She didn’t hesitate. Dropped what she was doing, told me to turn around (I knew that but good that she did too) and Immediately started the Heimlech. Pretty effectively and quickly she got it dislodged. Im just glad we both knew enough on how to act in that situation.

How about you all?

Kind of a different type “saving my life” but an older friend took me to a 12 step program called “adult children of alcoholics” which started me on the road of personal growth and addiction recovery.

If that hadn’t happened, I doubt that I would still be alive.

Got cramp swimming as a kid and was getting to the oh fuck stage of “I’m about to start inhaling water” when my friend pulled me out, haven’t seen him in many years but if I do I owe him a beer.

Eating dinner with my 3 kids and parents, was talking while eating meat kebob, one piece wouldn’t go down and got lodged above my windpipe. I stood up, couldn’t talk, looked at my middle kid, she stood up, walked behind me and gave me the heimlech maneuver which dislodged the meat. I thought I was going to die in front of my kids and my parents. Traumatic but my daughter was awesome!
