If I left my gas stove burner on (no flame) for almost 2 hours, am I going to be okay?

r/

I made my daughter dinner and I accidentally left the burner on the gas stove on (but no flame) for almost 2 hours. The kitchen is on the main floor and our bedrooms are upstairs; I walked downstairs because I was feeling shaky and nauseous so went down to get something to eat and could smell it pretty strongly. I opened up all the windows and doors on the first level, walked back upstairs and could smell it heavily upstairs too, so opened all of the windows in the house for about 2 hours.
Do I need to do anything else? I’m afraid to let my daughter & I go to sleep. I don’t want either of us to get sick or for my house to blow up. TIA!

    Open windows, don’t use electricity

    You’ll be OK.

Natural gas? Lighter than air. If you opened upstairs windows, it’s gone.
Propane? Heavier than air. But your leak was going upstairs, apparently.

Light a match and you’ll clear all that pesky gas out instantly

    Ps: don’t do that

The hazard from gas is suffocation, not poisoning. If the symptoms pass once you’re breathing regular air again, you’re almost certainly fine.

Open the windows for a while and ventilate the entire house to clear the gas and you will be OK. I’m not a doctor but you should be OK once the gas is out of your system.

Turn off the stove (obviously). Open windows and do not turn anything on that is electric. Leave the apartment/house. Call emergency services (911 in the US) and let them know what is happening. Let them advise you and follow their direction.

opens windows and call the none emergency service line is possible to ask what the best course of action is? if you still don’t feel 100% comfortable sleeping in the house see if you can spend the night at a friends or family maybe even hotel, safe over sorry!

You should get your stove checked because gas should not leak even if you leave the burner on with no flame unless you’re pressing the button. Once it’s cold it should turn itself off.
