If switching to a new car brand, don’t expect it to be the same as the brand you’re coming from

r/

Seeing so many posts from Tesler drivers on r/Ioniq5, either getting a 2nd EV or dumping their Teslers for the Ioniq5. Every-single-one asks… CaN IT dO One PedAL Driving LikE My TEsLeR? How IS sElF Driving?
Why would it be the same? Stuff is different.. It can be different within the same brand. Embrace difference. – adapt. And for FORKS sake… DRIVE your car instead of expecting it to do it for you. Convenience is nice, but you are still responsible for what your car does.

    Well, of course.

Of course things are different, that’s why people are asking before they buy.

That’s exactly the point of them asking isn’t it? They’re trying to find out what it can and can’t do compared to a Tesla, they’re looking for what’s different.

I went from driving a Pontiac to driving an Acura. Talk about an upgrade!

Yeah, how dare people research the product they’re about to spend a lot of money on!

I think this is more about Teslas having a bunch of stupid gadgets nobody else made because its overdesigned for the sake of overdesigning.

People are inquiring about something before spending tens of thousands of dollars?

Huh… well Rhys bizarre isn’t it?

I mostly own Hondas, but I have owned cars from many other brands as well. I tend to make notes of each thing a brand does across their lineup that I like and that I don’t.

For instance, Honda since I have more experience with them:

    Pros-
    Easiest to service overall
    High degree of parts interchangeability
Best manual transmissions (almost all my cars are manual)
    Consistently fun to drive

    Cons-
Shitty factory stereos (can usually be fixed with a new head unit and speakers well enough)
Weak automatic transmissions if not properly serviced
Higher prices on used market due to most people not understanding how reliability works

They have their flaws, but overall I think the good far outweighs the bad. The problem most people have is they don’t do enough due diligence when they look to buy a car. Looking at consumer reports and Carfax is not proper research. Go to forums for that car and listen to what owners and mechanics are saying. See how people who own other cars from that brand tend to like their cars. Build quality and ease of service tends to be the same across the brand. Like A Chevy Cavalier and a Chevy Suburban both have fairly low build quality, but are generally easy and cheap to work on and keep properly serviced.
