If there was a one in a million chance that you would step on an invisible nail and impale your foot, how long would you keep walking until you were overcome by paranoia?

In this scenario, let’s suppose that every step you take counts towards this. It’s a one in a million chance for every step. The nail is invisible until it’s lodged in your foot, so you have no way of avoiding it.

According to Mayo Clinic, the average American walks 3000-4000 steps a day. If we use that number, it equates to a 0.3-0.4% chance of stepping on the nail. That number may increase if you’re very physically active.

How long do you think it would take until your life was controlled by fear?

There’s a higher chance a car will hit me as I’m walking on the sidewalk. Life already has loads of things to be scared of and I am not paranoid. We just accept them.

most likely you’d even forget you were supposed to step on a nail and carry on with your daily life, until you actually do.
