If Trump is a Russia stooge, why hasn’t he lifted any sanctions on Russia?

r/

While Trump is certainly serving Russia’s interests with the mayhem he’s causing in America, I don’t think he’s actually a Russian agent like some liberal conspiracy theorists believe. For one, why hasn’t he lifted any of the sanctions on Russia? Russia badly needs money right now to fight its war. And if Trump is a Russian agent then how are the Russians communicating their will to him? I do believe the Russians meddled in the elections to help Trump win because they knew he’d fuck up his own country, but I don’t believe he’s actually an agent.

    >If Trump is not a Russia stooge, why didn’t he raise tariffs on Russia?

EDIT: Trump imposed tariffs on Iran, which is under massive sanctions.

Trump is not a dictator. He would like to be, but he isn’t.

He still has to worry about congress turning on him, and public opinion turning on him. (Even if he were a dictator, he would have to worry about the selectorate turning on him.)

He is more likely to help Russia in discrete ways that allow him plausible deniability.

There is a lot of confusion about this, so I’ll try to sort it all out for you.

    • Trump serves Russia’s interests often.
    • We do not know why Trump serves Russia’s interests so often.
    • There has been speculation about why (bribery, blackmail, agent, ‘useful idiot’, flattery, etc.) but no one actually knows.

Because he’s not a stooge in the sense he takes orders from Russia, he’s a stooge in the sense that what he does benefits Russia.

He can still act in a way that benefits Russia without lifting the sanctions.

There aren’t many people who think he’s literally getting orders texted from Moscow. That’s not a widely held opinion thing, and there’s no evidence to support it

He’s a bad actor and is compromised. He openly admires our enemies. His maga movement is disloyal, dishonorable and makes America weaker.

    Isn’t all that enough?

I tend to agree with you that he’s just helping Russia inadvertently. But one could also argue that a real Russian agent wouldn’t lift the sanctions right away either, it would be too blatant. He would start of gradually, perhaps by priming the public to be antagonistic to Ukraine, then by cutting Ukraine off from aid.

He’s’ already said he’ll do so at some point. I think he’s just dimly aware he can’t be too obvious about it.

I don’t think trump is controlled by putin. I just think he admires him and wants to be a dictator like him

and most telling of all? Trump was slapping insane tariffs on every country in the world, including ones with no humans, just penguins.

He fought against the sanctions last time and is calling for lifting them again. He’s given Russia free wins on Ukraine and skipped them with the tariffs.

I think the idea that Trump is a literal agent who takes orders from Moscow is fringe nonsense – it’s damning enough that he so clearly admires and seeks to emulate Putin, without giving him the excuse of being blackmailed or something.

Stooge, asset, and agent are different words.

A stooge is manipulated into serving the interests of some other party, an asset is a resource, or a person that acts or is to the advantage of someone else, and an agent actively takes orders from that party.

Trump is too dumb to be an agent. He is definitely an asset to Russia. He may or may not be a stooge. But the last two does not mean that Russia can make him do anything it wants, just things he thinks is in his interest anyway.

Trump has a much longer fulfilled checklist of “things a Russian plant would do”… however, since he has a single item on the checklist of “things a Russian plant wouldn’t do”, that means he’s in the clear!

Nevermind the fact that plants need to maintain plausible deniability
