I really hate seeing games from PS Plus, Amazon Prime Gaming, etc., being marketed as “free.” You’re paying for a subscription service ,those games aren’t truly free. It’s frustrating how companies advertise them like they’re giving you a gift, when in reality, it’s part of what you’re already paying for. I get that it’s just marketing, but it’s still annoying.

Just like calling tax payer funded healthcare.. “free healthcare”
Yeah I get annoyed when people talk about the “free games” but don’t want to go out of my way to correct every instance I see it either. Kinda means they’ve fallen for the shift from simply paying for a subscription of games (when online was free for everyone) to thinking it’s just trh price for online and they get free stuff
I don’t think you know what grift means. Also, you’re not paying for the free games. You’re paying for the online access. The free games are a perk.
I can smell burnt toast after trying to read this. Is that bad?
If I have to hand over my email then it isn’t free.
I have a friend who refers to games on Xbox Gamepass as “free” and I always make a point to correct them on the inaccuracy of that statement.
Bro get an honest problem
This is just you being pedantic over the word free. You know what people mean when they say it. If you didn’t then you wouldn’t know enough to correct them. Just shut up about it.
I don’t think they have ever been marketed as free? Some people just have that mindset.
Nothings free, so everyone is going to draw their own line for what “free” means
I used to have ps plus for $60, with online play and 24 games a year. In theory as long as you pay you have access to that entire library, it’s not free it’s just a heavily discounted rental.
The thing is, I think people say that because of the paid online aspect.
Most people pay for a membership to play online, adding a 5-10$ to that and getting like 500 hundred games (that don’t have to be paid for) for sure feels, at least a little bit, “free”.
This just in, from the University of Sherlock
What else do you call “costs $0 if you’re a subscriber” that fits in a little button you’d click to pay for it? “Free” is easy and most us understand the conditions without being pedantic about it
Yes, man, nothing is free. Everything advertised as “free” is a ploy for engagement, information, marketing, etc. You’re really woke for finally arriving to that conclusion at the ripe old age of whatever you are.
I think the subscription model of gamepass is great value for money if you play online games regularly, and tend to dip in and out of games, or don’t want to dedicate long hours into gaming.
It’s basically Netflix for games, and with the price of games these days, for a lot of people it makes sense.
It annoys me when at a fair I see posters for. on the poster that it’s £12 entry then unlimited free rides there not free though lmao
That always annoys me so much. Sure, you are not paying for that specific product but you still spend money to have access. By definition it’s not free
It’s bad enough when companies lie about it but even other people will do that. “Hey guy XY is free!” Then you check and it’s not
They also sell your data. So let’s say an app says it’s free, it’s actually not. They took your data and sold it.
Enshitification, it’s in more than just games
True, it’s not really free, more so cheap, but that doesn’t sound as good on the marketing.
