If you play music on your phone in public transport you should be jailed.

r/

I’m not that old but I remember when this was not the norm. And society was much better off for it.

It’s 💯 imposition of your will on those around you and it’s oppressive and obscene.

Jail for playing music out of the phone speakers is a little harsh, maybe a fine? The mfs that get on blasting their absolute dog shit drivel out of their portable speakers deserve to be locked far underground, and never bought back up.

  3. IllustriousEffect607 Avatar

A lot of this generation of youth are very annoying.

I really wanna say that this is a popular opinion.

  6. LeoLaDawg Avatar

I like the people who hold their phone out in front of their fat, stupid faces and loudly as possible speaker phone their call. And they just stumble along slowly, scowling at everyone, just hoping someone would say something so they can play the victim and explode.

  7. VERY_CREATIVE Avatar

It’s only getting worse too. I used to think it was a generational thing, but my boomer dad has no qualms about blasting his phone in a quiet restaurant.

  8. slymarcus Avatar

Jail seems a bit harsh. But I should be allowed to break whatever device they are playing music from.

  9. afterlife_music Avatar

    A sound drubbing would suffice.

  10. Dhaynes99 Avatar

what if i bust out a boombox? is that like guaranteed solitary for my sentence?

  11. Kapoik Avatar

Oh come on pal, thats classic traveling music

“Riding on the bus, riding on the bus, sitting next to bums, there’s an open seat, hope that isnt pee”

Are you serious or is this just hyperbole

I dont get how this doesn’t count as a disturbance when theres already a law against blasting music out of a car

  15. Lord_Shadowfire Avatar

Here’s a thought. Maybe they should give out free headphones. No, for those people who can’t comprehend the fucking difference, I don’t mean earbuds.

  16. Vigorously_Swish Avatar

Music is annoying, yeah, but the worst is the people that play casino games at full volume in public

  17. staroura Avatar

Back when we had landlines and smartphones weren’t a thing, we had phone etiquette. Don’t talk loud in public, don’t put people on speakerphone without telling them, things like that. I don’t know what happened to that because the same people who would follow that etiquette back then is the same demographic that blasts their shit in public now

  18. Warm-Major-1735 Avatar

This is a popular opinion, fella.

  19. Jealous-Knowledge-56 Avatar

Planes to. I’ve heard loud, “funny” youtube videos a few times

  20. kingamara Avatar

I assume you’re being dramatic by saying jail. But yea I think most people are annoyed by people using their phone loudly in public tbh.

    ETA: oppressive and obscene? Really?

  21. SmallJimSlade Avatar

It’s “oppressive” but jailing people for annoying you isn’t?

  22. Mathalamus2 Avatar

a little far, but if it works, then it works.

  23. Rachel794 Avatar

How terrible it is to be forced to enjoy music. Music is not a social thing at all

  24. MissKittyMidway Avatar

My husband (50m) listens to reels at full volume everywhere we go. I swear it’s to get me to divorce him.

  25. lime_coffee69 Avatar

Whenever is see someone doing this my first thought is always mental illness.

Every person IV know personally who has to have music playing in their pocket all day has severe mental health issues.

  26. JefeRex Avatar

You and I remember differently. You never saw people with boomboxes on public transport? Not only did I used to in the past, sometimes I still do. I don’t remember the same norm you do.

  27. New_Crow3284 Avatar

I disagree. If you put all noise makers in jail, jail will be hell for those that were there first.

  28. Apprehensive_Map64 Avatar

I am almost old enough to remember people with boomboxes. It was highly looked down upon even then though and they weren’t in every kid’s pocket either

  29. daneazyc Avatar

Jailed for some public music is some North Korean regime shit

  30. jaapaasa Avatar

You are playing music too loud? Straght to jail, right away. Driving too fast? Jail. Too slow? Jail.

  31. OkayOpenTheGame Avatar

If anyone in this scenario is to be jailed, it should be anyone who thinks we should jail others for mundane reasons. Facists like OP are more of a danger to society than people who blast music in public.

  32. TheHvam Avatar

Wouldn’t that be a giant waste of money, time and resources to jail people? Like just think of the cost of having to catch and sentence everyone who does that. Plus what about other music like people who play it on a speaker, and people who play it in their car loud with windows down?

A fine maybe, but jail? That is just a waste of everyone’s time and money.

  33. EatingCoooolo Avatar

We don’t have enough jails in the UK for this, we are already letting criminals out early to make space for new criminals.

  34. skronk61 Avatar

I would jail the phone companies that stopped including free headphones first. Treat the cause, not the symptoms

  35. Puzzleheaded_End8631 Avatar

unless you are older and just opening up a message which could be a tik tok or just trying to entertain your self on your way to and from supermarket

  36. CapCapital Avatar

“I dont like it when people annoy me, they should be thrown in jail!”

You know how insane you sound right?

  37. thegoddamnsiege Avatar

I was kicked off of the bus when I was a teenager in the early 2000s for having music too loud coming from my *headphones*, and nowadays junkies just play music on bluetooth speakers at full volume on the bus, and the driver doesn’t do shit.

  38. MamaTalista Avatar

    The 80’s would disagree.

    See ghetto blasters.

  39. AllEliteSchmuck Avatar

You know what else is oppressive? Throwing people in jail for music.

  40. Hypocritical_Oath Avatar

People who take their dogs into businesses should also be jailed.

People with crying babies in restaurants? Jail.

People with crying babies on planes? Jail for literally ever.

Your idea is stupid. They’re being anti-social but jailing people doesn’t make them less anti-social, it makes them MORE anti-social. And they’ll probably come out a drug dealer too.

  41. yblaze27 Avatar

It wasnt a norm because smartphones with speakers werent a norm thing before

  42. HereticsSpork Avatar

I enjoy when people blast music from Bluetooth speakers on the subway because then I get to play a game of “can I guess what device it is and connect to it” in the Bluetooth settings on my phone.

  43. oatseyhall Avatar

Ok i won’t use my phone. I’ll use a boombox instead

  44. KrishnaMage Avatar

I’ve never seen this though, not for years. These days everyone has headphones on and not paying attention to the environment around them, which I think is weird tbh and possible dangerous.

  45. burningtoast99 Avatar

Op doesn’t understand the word unpopular, does he.

  46. flo282 Avatar

Jail? Lmao, let’s also send stupid ahh people to jail for spreading such bullshit takes.

  47. RidethatSeahorse Avatar

Grandpa today listening to his radio in a medical office waiting room. Hearing aid definitely off. Same same but different.

  48. Alhajiuzi Avatar

What if the song is great

  49. De_Mille Avatar

Play music too loud? Believe it or not, straight to jail..

  50. shitcum2077 Avatar

The jail part is stupid, either a fine or a ban from the method of transportation.

  51. TTMSTR Avatar

    I don’t know about jail…

there needs to be pressure on bus drivers to give a shit to get rid of these people, or have an attendant who’s sole job it is to stop destructive and antisocial behaviour.

  52. jun3_bugz Avatar

This is r/unpopularopinion 😭 this is a mediocre take at best

  53. Gh0stTV Avatar

I don’t care about your opinion so much as I do the people misquoting Parks and Recreation. The line is RIGHT to jail, not straight to jail. And it’s only a matter of time before people start claiming it’s a Mandela Effect.

  54. Ceiling-Fan2 Avatar

I was in line somewhere and a gen Z had his phone on full blast. He only put it on silent when I turned around to see who tf had their phone on full volume. He KNOWS it’s annoying and still puts the sound on until he sees someone get visibly annoyed.

  55. SofttHamburgers Avatar

WTH? I thought everybody wanted to hear my impeccable taste in Australian hip hop music?

  56. MaintainEveryday Avatar

My faves when you’re reading a book. And it’s not music – it’s just doom scrolling.

  57. PaddywackShaq Avatar

I made a thread similar to this one about whistling out loud in public and it got shouted down by a deluge of whistling advocates.

I guess it’s not really about the sound or the rudeness, you guys just don’t like hearing their music.

  58. sharkbomb Avatar

the public part is why i cant do public transportation.

  59. LocoCoyote Avatar

And yet here you are trying to impress your will on others. Ironic.

  60. UglySuperVillain Avatar

But jail? You must be out of your mind.

North korea level punishment, ruin someones life for music?

  63. RollTheDice94YaKnow Avatar

Maybe not jailed, but a fine would be suitable.

On a side note, people that wear their headphones EVERYWHERE bug me. Like can you really not take them off for an hour or two while driving/running errands..? Is it a social anxiety thing?

  64. Substantial-News-336 Avatar

Not jail, but I think public shaming and a solid fine is in order.
The same for you sick fucks who use the speakeroption to take calls in public. You guys can go lick a 2-days old turd

  65. Sentinel222 Avatar

I use to watch the simpsons on my phone through my headphones when I took the bus but one time my headphones disconnected and the simpsons started playing at full volume for about 5 seconds and that moment has haunted me for years
