If your emotions are valid and your actions wrong, then using your emotions to justify your actions makes you a bad person.

r/

If you use your emotions to justify your actions, then you are not only deflecting blame away from yourself onto something you can’t control, but also admitting that you are not in control of yourself. You are using your nonexistent self control as a shield from responsibility.

And often enough blaming the other party for not understanding your emotions when you have your well deserved consequences to deal with. Your emotions are valid, but your actions remain your own, regardless of how bad or angry or frustrated you feel.

Being hurt explains your pain not your behavior. Owning your actions even when emotional, is where real maturity begins.

I don’t personally think this is unpopular, but most people don’t consider this and simply act on the emotions without thinking.

Don’t women have a pre-rehearsed phrase for this? “Hell hath no furry like a woman scorned”? And that’s what they tell themselves before they do something shitty on purpose because they’re mad?

What do you suggest then? If someone acts out of emotion they can’t say that?

The best apology I’ve ever gotten was this: (paraphrased)

“My emotions led me to lash out at you, I am truly sorry for that, in the future I will remove myself from the situation or otherwise ask for space before I get that worked up.”

Your emotions can be an explanation as to your action

I am curious what prompted this post. Seems like someone in OP’s circle is trying to avoid being accountable for their actions.

This assumes you can control your amygdala, and the fight or flight responses triggered by it. They cause actions generally tied to “emotions”
