Illinois- Ex continues to escalate, and has now tried to poison me to stay in his life

r/

Location: Illinois:I have been dating a man for 3 months and the harassment and stalking seems to be intensifying everytime we break up. He refuses to let me go. He has called me from a minimum of 30 different numbers including his job, he threatens to have me arrested with fake police reports and threatens to get restraining order on me if i don’t agree to be with him, he pops up at my house, and most recently he stole a bottle of tequila from me and pushed me out of his home. When he returned the tequila, he gave me the original bottle and a 2 liter soda. He told me to throw the original bottle away because he had filled it with ammonia “in case I made him mad”. He does all of this yet claims he doesn’t want a relationship with me and has another potentially pregnant gf in Maryland. Ive filed police reports on the harassment, and I truly don’t want to go through the drawn out court process of getting a restraining order and causing him to escalate (which he has already told me he has 4 felonies and does not fear the court). What else can I do to get him out of my life?

Cease all contact. Cease ALL contact. Forever. No exceptions.

Block on all media. If he makes new accounts, block instantly. Do not answer any calls from numbers not on your contact list. If he shows up call the police immediately.

This is really the only legal tool you have, other than blocking.

Sorry, but this is your legal recourse. Your last legal option, and worst, is to wait for escalation on his part, which may result in criminal charges that could land him in jail. You can understand why the passive approach is terrible.

Most of Illinois is Chicago, so I’ve found a link there.

The longer you stay around, the more you are putting your health and safety at risk. You need to find a professional group to support you. If you’re in Chicago, try this group: https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/fss/provdrs/dom_violence/svcs/domestic_violencehelpline.html
