I am doing my research online but I’d really like to hear some suggestions.
I’m not a “brilliant” student. I already have a master’s degree. With 6.5 cgpa in average.
And I’m going for a second master’s this session. After that I plan to move abroad for PhD. (Hopefully by 2027. Or 2028.)
I’d really really like to hear what would a great option for me. Also, if any of you are students living abroad, I’d like to hear your experience and pros and cons of living abroad. 🙂
I’m 23 years old (F) from India. Kolkata. I want to go abroad for my Ph.D but I’m a little bit confused. What country and/or university would be a great option for a typical middle class Indian student like me?

Lot of folks in your situation look into places like Germany or Canada. Germany often has lower tuition, even for PhDs, and Canada’s got some solid universities and a good rep for being welcoming. You’ll wanna check out the specific programs, though, ’cause funding and how they look at your grades can vary a ton. Getting a second master’s is a smart move, that’ll definitely boost your application. Just start reaching out to professors and departments early, and don’t be afraid to ask about funding options.
I would normally say the United States but given the political climate here right now it is probably not a good time. The schools are very good and many of them have a large number of fellow Indian students but university funding is being slashed and even legal residents such as international students are at risk of deportation if they do something the government doesn’t like.
I’ve heard good things about programs in European countries such as Germany and Switzerland.
Good luck!
