“I’m asking the same question.”

r/

So, I’ve been on many forums, looking for answers for games and stuff, and there’s just ONE TYPE OF COMMENT that gets on my nerves.

There are some random people that have the same question that decide to comment on forum pages stating it. Like, dude. If you want the answer to the question, WAIT. YOU DON’T HAVE TO DECLARE THAT YOU’RE WONDERING THE SAME QUESTION.

That’s infinitely better than people making multiple original posts all asking the same thing.

Glad someone finally said this. I’ve been thinking the same thing.

Replying that you have the same question (or anything for that matter) bumps the topic to the top of the “latest activity”-feed, which increases the odds of someone seeing the thread and answering the question.

Who cares? This is a super Petty thing to complain about. This would be more fitting in the pet peeves sub

More engagement makes the comment more popular and gets it more visibility. More people see it and comment. You get more and potentially better answers.

well, internet comments are a form of human interaction, and human interaction doesn’t need to be sole functional… i too saw those comments, maybe made one myself a pair of times, but i don’t care

    I have the same complaint.

The only reason they do that is to bump the topic.

Still better than just saying “this” or “I came here to say this”.

More recent comment type I’ve found annoying is are the

    “Who is here in 202X?”
    Just super annoying attention seekers.

It’s actually useful on forum sites especially if the post was older or not getting much traction as any sort of interaction will essentially bring it to the top of the active list or similar lists on that site

It is why it was common back in the day to post simple things like “bump” on small or dead threads to try and revitalize them and essentially bump them back to the top so more people see them

It bumps the thread. Maybe rejuvenates it if it’s been dead for a bit. Makes it more likely someone who knows the answer will respond. Maybe if it’s a common problem, then somebody who is interested will actually go hunting for an answer.

I assume people are trying to make a human connection and let the other person they’re not alone in their ignorance or curiosity.

Weird that this would annoy you, since they’re basically saying you asked a good question.
