I’m completely lost, jobless, and passionless at 25 AMA

r/

Hi there, things aren’t as dire as my title may make them seem but they aren’t going good either. I’m 25, graduated with a bachelors three years ago, and haven’t been able to find a job since.

I have no real passions outside of video games and trading card games. I’m not exactly sure where to go from here with my life, so AMA.

What was your bachelors in? Curious bcs I know a lot of people who are unemployed after getting certain degrees.

I’ve been in the same place you are, and in some ways I’m still there. I think a lot of other people can relate. My question is, do you have a vision of what you want to do in life? An ideal career, learning a skill, making or doing something cool, anything. You say you like games and cards, so you do have some passions, and I’m willing to bet that there are other things you enjoy that you didn’t mention. As long as you’ve got dreams and goals, you’re not completely lost, and you can set yourself towards achieving those things. How are you doing relationship-wise? Have you thought about trying therapy?

Well, quit the “games” and you might find something cool. Woodworking? Take some classes until it clicks

What was the last thing you were passionate about in regards to your life, and why did you lose it?

Learn to code and become a video game developer, or become a project manager at a video game company

I was the same exact way and then my friend told me about a firefighter/paramedic program, in fact, most of them will pay for your licensing if you work for them for X years. I absolutely love what I do. I save lives daily and it makes me feel great. Give it a thought.

I am just going to turn 25 and I have a sales job. I am lost as well and feel like there is no worth in this world for me. Try something I guess is my best advice better than doing nothing, especially if you need the money.

Have you considered that maybe your focus on passion (or lack thereof) may actually be holding you back professionally?

What I mean: Most people don’t have a passion that aligns with earning money. Like, I enjoy reading books, but no one will pay me to read books. Instead, I just have to make enough money doing something so that I can afford to read books comfortably when I’m not working. If instead I felt like I needed to be passionate about something first in order to do it as my job, the number of professions I could viably pursue drops to near zero.

So, given your lack of drive, maybe it’d be best to just work at any random job that will hire you (even if it’s just flipping burgers) solely for some income, then simply live for the weekend. Not very inspiring, but that’s kind of my point. That’s what most people do anyway. Most people aren’t passionate at all about their job, they just do it because they have to.

Disclaimer: I’m not a therapist or mental health expert or anything. Just a random Redditor with a perhaps unpopular take.

I work and study in mental health, I see a lot of you are replying to this thread, relating to OP’s story. May I please ask what ethnicities you all are? If you or your family had been immigrants, what generation immigrant you are? This pertains to a research paper I have been thinking about writing.

I would start by going on a hike today. Put on some old shoes and google a good park or state land and walk around. Whenever I feel a bit lost this gets me grounded and frees my mind from other diatractions. Do you like your degree? Or is more to have something to get through school? That was my case and I had some very low lows before life forced me to pivot. Things get better but it takes time and a bit of looking inward. You will get through it, the fact you reached out on here shows that, you’re already taking steps in the right direction. Good luck on your journey. Feel free to message me if you want to talk.
