As the title says. I’m a United States citizen and feel overwhelmed and confused whenever I read the news and realize I just don’t have a very good understanding of how the government works. Are there any podcasts or books that kind of ELI5?
I’m embarrassed about how little I know about how the United States government works. Does anyone have any resources for how to learn about this?

It’s completely normal to feel that way! There are plenty of simple resources out there like Civics 101 podcast or iCivics that break everything down clearly. You’ve got this!

Is that you, Donald?
Hillsdale College free course called Constitution 101.
I wish more people could engage with things they need to learn more about like this.
There’s a Crash Course for that!

Google “Basic Civics facts” and spend some time reading and exploring the topics. Lots of good info there. You can even quiz yourself!
When you feel like you have a decent understanding, check out @sharonsaysso on Instagram. She is a former US Government teacher, so she explains current events and answers questions. She is very interesting and is very popular.
Proud of you for realizing your weakness and trying to fix it by asking for help. Remember, if you spend 15 min/day on something, you will become more advanced than most people in 6 months.
Here’s the beauty of it…it doesn’t work!
There’s a big difference between how things are supposed to work (I Endorse Schoolhouse Rock) and whatever is happening now.
The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair. It’s fiction but it explains why we need government oversight and regulations. It’s a good read and explains a lot about corruption
I’m so glad your embarrassment has motivated you to learn more instead of doubling down on ignorance and identity politics. Kudos.
