I’m (f20s) going to marry my platonic best friend (m20s) in a few months.

r/

We’re from different countries. We’ve had feelings for each other that come and go for years. But the one thing thats remained constant is love, friendship, and loyalty.

We’ve loved each other through our highs and lows. He’s loved me through my meltdowns, and shown me that not everyone will leave at some point. I feel.. accepted. Wholly. I am so grateful.

We don’t have much family anymore. We make each other feel like little kids. Life is so hard and we make it.. fun for each other.

We want to live together but obviously can’t without that step.

I’m just excited to have family again, without any expectations that come from a relationship.

It’s really only a marriage of friendship… we know we will be together forever.

Concept Sounds good in a dream world but honestly it could all come to an quick end if one of you meets someone else and falls in love unexpectedly … or you both agree on not falling in love the next 60 years ? Just having a friendship ?

Or would you two be still dating other people while married ?

That’s what the mature form of love looks like: deep friendship, happiness, suport and acceptance. And it’s natural to fall in and out of a crush with that person repeatedly over the years, simply bc our bodies are unable to produce the hormones that give you the giddy feelings of falling in love/having a crush without taking a break. From what I remember, the longest that our bodies can sustain that euphoric feeling at a time is 2 yrs, but the norm is less than that.
So yeah, true romantic love is basically a deep and constant platonic love + an on and off cycle of feeling the butterflies.

Cute, but let’s go back to reality. Marriage is no joke, sharing your life with someone is not a game and you are both too young and somewhat naive. Still, best of luck.
