I, F/22 have been dating my partner, M/22 for 2 and a half years. Our relationship was unexpected as I just had gotten out of one when we met and clicked instantly (yeah I know, not a good idea) and we have been together ever since.
He clicks a lot of boxes, but not all of them. For him, I’m his first long term girlfriend ever. Because of this, I feel like he takes me for granted and doesn’t really show up for me the way I do for him. We have had many conversations on it and he says he will do better, starts to show progress, and within a month he’s back to how he was prior. He doesn’t compliment me anymore or show any interest in any steamy things I send. He tends to have a lot of selfish motives and doesn’t think of me in a lot of different circumstances.
He is very infatuated with me, has talked about our future, etc. and I feel guilty because I don’t think I can keep doing this. My last straw broke when I recently found out he has neglected my pet while I’m away out of the country to hangout with friends. We are going to be long distance in a couple of months and I’m just questioning if it’s even worth salvaging at this point. I’m also just seeing red right now about him not feeding my pet and leaving it while doing whatever he wants to do.
If you were in my shoes, what would you do? Is there something I’m missing? Need some tough love right now

You can break up for any reason, but definitely the animal neglect would be a deal breaker for me.
Best first talk to him, and see what his response is.
He doesn’t compliment you or show desire, he neglects animals and has proven he can’t make a concerted effort to improve your relationship. You know you don’t want this.
