i’m the newly adult child of two (and a step parent) addicts AMA

r/

My father has been an addict of many substances my whole life in and out of jail,
He abused my mother and after an incident she was prescribed morphine which started a 10 year opioid addiction resulting in fentanyl use, She’s now 3 years sober!
my step father was a casual user until he broke his back and started using consistently (don’t know for sure what but it ended up being ketamine and fentanyl at the end of our relationship with him 2.5 years ago)
3 weeks ago he passed alone in a public bathroom of an overdose.

this is obviously a lot and not all that has effected me as obviously we went thru abuse and homelessness aswell as accidental consumption, however i still view what i experienced as positive and believe i have a much broader view on life than many people.
