I’m trying to find friends

r/

23F here and haven’t had what I consider “real friends” since 8th grade. I was diagnosed with autism at the age of 12 and I have anxiety. I’m high functioning and most people don’t know I have autism until I decide to tell them. I socialize well for the most part but I’m not sure where to look for friends as I have a full time job and I moved in with my boyfriend (2 hours from where I grew up) and I don’t know anyone else here besides him. There is a subreddit for where I live but being a female I was wary of posting there. I’ve dealt with life for so long without friends and I’m tired of doing nothing about it. Should I try posting in the local subreddit or maybe find group activities around to sign up for?? I’m trying to change and not let fear control me so any advice on what to do would be really helpful

Volunteer work can help you meet people as can pickup games for different sports if that sounds interesting. For instance, about a month after moving to a new place I went to a practice for Ultimate Frisbee. I had never played ultimate frisbee in my life, but It said it was open for all ages and skill levels. Went to a pickup game and then after the pickup game we all went to Denny’s. Instant friendships made.
You basically just need to join something and get outside. Whether that be church, if you’re religious, volunteer work if you want to help your community, whatever to put yourself out there.
