I dont know if its just me, but sometimes I think its so weird when a dog or cat or any other pet has a name that my brain registers as a “human name”. There are definitely some exceptions, my friend has a lizard called george washington and thats funny and not weird, but wdym your dog is called Arthur or Frank?💔 I couldn’t imagine myself yelling this at a park, I feel like people would think I’m yelling for my Dad that I somehow don’t call Dad but by his first name.

Ahat about Catrina for a cat?
My mom’s dogs names are Lance and Taylor lol
My parents had a cat named Bob. His name was just Bob and that’s it but my cousin called him Robert as a joke
Definitely unpopular, I LOOOOOVE human names on dogs/pets, it’s adorable.
I have a Charlie, Franklin, Penelope, Maddie, and Luc (luke). My friends have a Kevin and Dave and their names crack me up everytime.
Reminds me of the famous Richard Parker
Does Hercules count?
My dog’s name is Larry, and I just LOVE an animal with a human name. There’s something about a dog named Steve that just makes me laugh.
I also dislike it.
My brother brought home a nice girl named Emily.
My parents had a nice hunting dog that was 5 years old, named Emily.
A couple years later, my brother married his girlfriend, Emily. Now my parents had a daughter in law named Emily.
Problem was as time went on, certain people who came into our lives couldn’t tell who came first – dog Emily or daughter in law Emily – and thought my parents named their dog after their daughter in law. Things would get awkward when people would notice cuz my parents would drag their dog everywhere.
I always give my pets human names. What about humans with pet names though?
It is just you
A cat named Kevin is the funniest thing in the world to me
I have four cats named Jay (RIP to his late brother Silent Bob), Bruce, Frank, and Kevin. Good boys all around!
Thank God I’ve never heard of a pet called “human names”Â
Leave my good boy Jeff out of this!! 🤣
I actually cringe at food or alcohol names for dogs: Sirloin. Kimchii, Noodle, Whiskey are dog names in my neighbourhood. Shouting ‘Whiskey’ or ‘Sirloin’ in a park sounds far worse than an actual human name. As our perception of dogs as being true members of a family unit has grown, it makes sense to give them human names. Spot, Fido or Digger, eh, why is that better? I love when neurotic looking dogs like Whippets get serious sounding names like Ian.
I know a cat named Robert and he’s pretty cool
Half the people on r/namemydog put their exes name.
So like what names do you use then? Mittens, rover, socks?
Our dogs, when I was a kid, had human names, I always think people called Tina or Toby have dogs names.
I name most my cats and my foster kittens “human” names. Some human names are named after other things like, for instance, my last litter had Lily, Rose, Dahlia (Dolly) and Daisy. Then I had other names for my cats: Dimitri, Sophia, Rayna, Aligheri, Astraea, Roxy, Buddy, Princess, Kiki, Samson (Sammy) & Delilah (Dee Dee), Khadidjah, Karma, Kismet, Charlie, Valentina, Cosmo, Jack and so many more.
I remember someone telling me their dog’s name was Dave.
That was around 15 years ago and it’s only time Dave was ever mentioned to me yet I still remember it so well because it makes me laugh to this day.
