I’m worried I won’t be able to change diapers, need advice, help?

r/

Sorry in advance if this is TMI, and also sorry if this is lame of me

My S/O and I want a child (I brought it up) but, I have such an extreme aversion to poop/vomit. Pee doesn’t bother me but… I grew up around a lot of kids, all my friends have kids too. It’s bad cause I can’t even look at my own without wanting to gag. Changing a pad/tampon makes me gag if i take too long too. Idk why.

I can’t watch when they change the diapers. My whole life, had to look away any time I see a destroyed toilet in public, or if someone even starts to gag. I can’t even handle someone doing one of those wet coughs for phlegm. When I have to cough up something I throw up 1000% of the time, not even exaggerating, my gag reflex is so sensitive that it’s insane.

I thought exposing myself to it more would get me “used to it” but I’ve been trying to be around and help out when my roomates have diaper duty happening, can’t.

I know a lot of people have a kid and are scared of diapers and then eventually get over it, but I’m genuinely worried my situation is worse lmao, is there ANY one else who sympathizes here and can offer any help?

I don’t want to be a bad parent and rely on my S/O for everything and i feel like this would make me fail as a parent 🙁

Have you ever considered therapy to help with these aversions?

No one enjoys changing diapers and it does take getting used to but I won’t lie if you can’t handle a wet cough or your own bodily fluids therapy may help you move through life without being nauseous quite so frequently.

This comes from someone who frequently has to discuss my own squeamishness in therapy.
