For context, Stardoll is a computer game where you can dress up 2D dolls and be in fashion shows. Stardollars are currency which you buy with real life money, and it gets you “Superstar” status, as well as exclusive clothes/makeup/jewelry that poor, non-Superstars couldn’t get.
As a 12/13 year old girl, this game was my life. I was pissed that I was always losing fashion shows and not being able to get good clothes because I didn’t have real money to spend in the game. So, I came up with a plan.
I made a free website on Weebly that had a section for people to enter their Stardoll username and password. I would message Superstar Stardoll users with the link and say if they filled out the form, they would receive $500 free Stardollars!
Of course, many impressionable children filled out the form, and their usernames and passwords came straight to me. I would log into their accounts, go into their closets, and start gifting all of their exclusive clothes/makeup/jewelry to myself. Whatever Stardollars they had, I would spend on more clothes that I would then just gift to myself.
If I remember correctly, this scam lasted a few weeks and claimed 15-20 victims before I got scared and deleted the website. I don’t think I was very smart about concealing my identity- the people I sent the link to messaged me upset because they (obviously) figured out what happened. I was terrified and eventually closed shop.
I think about this from time to time and had to share. I hope kids are internet savvy aren’t falling for this same kind of stuff today.

Got em!
i loved star doll so much and had no money to spend on it either and was definitely not that savvy! that’s kinda amazing tbh i’m sure some kids were sad but they probably got them back. i’m sure you bought some fun stuff lmaoo
i got scammed on stardoll once 🙁 it was so so so sad
I probably fell for this at some point as a kid 😂
This is vile… and genius!
I was a Stardoll junkie myself and it also gave me my first taste of class warfare.
One time I logged on with dozens of messages on my profile. I found out I was selected as National Covergirl! And there were so many comments saying that I didn’t deserve it because I had made everything with free stuff.
Some may think I’m exaggarating but I find it hard to believe this game still exists and preys on children, even harder than before. Any game that primarily makes money off of children is just bizarre.
Dude you’re so smart for this fr… That’s wild!🤣 I was scammed on there many times. I wonder if I fell for one of these!! Hahaha
It’s okay in the early 2000’s we would tell kids on RuneScape they could duplicate items if they dropped them and hit Alt-F4. You taught those kids a very important lesson.
LOOOOL no bc this is hilarious. I was a heavy stardoll user myself (royalty and all)
I loved Stardoll this is hilarious, a menace
we all do stupid shit as a kid
That was a really mean thing to do but thank you for being honest and giving people a heads up about these things. You were just a kid. I’m sure you’re a very intelligent person.
Well, it’s wrong of you to remind me of my first addiction. I guess I’ll have to see if my account still works now and be an addict again.
You sound like the type of kid I wanted to hang with
Honestly impressive.
I give you a pass. This is quite saavy for 12 year old and your guilt and closing of shop shows you have a conscious.
I was scammed on some coca-cola avatar music game as a kid. You’d go into diff rooms where people had personal beats made or something and you could give people karma for nicely designed rooms and beats and the coolest thing you could get was like a pin ball machine or juke box or maybe it was a coca-cola vending machine. I donno. I got scammed out of a pinball machine or something and complained and was so devastated I just deleted the app.
I loved Stardoll!! But, looking back, there were definitely some pedophiles on that site.
I had something similar happen to me as a kid in another online game. It felt shitty, but it was a good lesson to learn at least!
I once scammed people on runescape.
Didn’t phish, lure, or hack or anything like that. Back in 2017 OSRS there were a ton of “Casino bots” that would legitimately pay out 49% of the time. Think dice roll, 1-100. You guess above or below 50. If it hit 50 you lose too.
I figured out that all I had to do was have three accounts up. One was the “casino bot” which was me typing quickly from a script, and the two other accounts were also me pretending to play. I’d pretend that the two accounts of mine won fairly consistently and other people would come and give me loads of GP. I’m talking millions. They all lost every time. One guy got frustrated and went 10k bet, 100k bet, 1 mil bet, 5 mil bet, and finally a 50 mil bet.
I then traded the countless riches to my other accounts a few times to cover my tracks I guess?? and then to my main account. Never got banned or anything, but I do feel bad about it sometimes.
I remember encountering that scam in Woozworld when I was that age. I actually filled out the form someone sent me but I didn’t have much to steal in the first place LOL
Oh boy, the days before 2 factor authentication…
Lmao I remember scamming someone once & her username was Stardoll40. This was on Zwinky & I stole hundreds of ZBucks
I love this! There used to be an option to top up stardollars using a landline phone. I had a friend whose parents were waaaaay better off than mine. I used their phone late at night during sleepovers to top off my stardollars a few times. IDK if they caught on, but no one ever said anything about it to me
