In need of general advice for an extremely odd situation.

r/

So last night I got to my girlfriend’s place around 10pm. She lives in a small kind of run down apartment complex. Each apartment has multiple bedrooms so it’s mostly lower income families living there. The apartment complex has a small parking lot with assigned parking but I always park on the street where there’s no restrictions. Anyways, I drove her to work for 7am this morning and found a note on my windshield that said “read me” on the outside. When I opened it the note contained my full name and address, nothing more.

Needless to say I’m extremely confused and looking for advice on why and how someone could do this. I don’t talk to anyone in the apartment complex besides my girlfriend and her sister who lives with her. Her sister was asleep the entire time I was there and has no access to a printer. I saw two older immigrant parents throwing out garbage near me as I left my car but that’s it.

I know it’s possible to get information from a license plate but it’s very difficult and usually costs money, so that begs the question of why would someone spend all that time, effort and money on me and this note. Any advice is much appreciated.

I live in Canada for reference.

That note’s straight-up weird and kinda scary. Tell someone, keep the note, and don’t brush it off in case it’s more serious than it looks.

That would undoubtedly frighten me as well. It’s even more unnerving because it’s vague and strangely intimate. Is there a possibility that someone in the building would have been curious since they knew your car from previous visits? Or is it possible that someone is attempting to scare you for non-flat complex-related reasons? Was the note handwritten or typed?

Woah! I genuinely thought this was an American situation until the end. I know there’s no actual evidence of a perpetrator or intent, but I’d definitely at least file a report. That’s scary! Stay safe and maybe avoid going there and meeting at yours instead.

General ways to obtain your identity. If they had a photo they could have used a reverse image search. They could have used social engineering and spoke to someone who know you. They could have used official means either using the VIN number off your vehicle or maybe even your license plate. The methods available for that very much differ based on where you live.

Probably a cop/ investigator or someone knows one. Definitely be mindful of your surroundings. Don’t mean to scare you but its very odd

That is your girlfriends stalker! Watch out and file a report with the police.

Don’t know about Canada, but in the US most high school kids could do that in 30 minutes online. Easiest way is property tax records, which are published on many towns websites. How common is your make/model/year/color?
