So, over here in the UK – the main opposition create a ‘shadow cabinet’ basically an opposition government in waiting; and when the government announce a policy or make a mistake then the MP who holds the ‘shadow position’ is usually the one who speaks on the issue to the media.
Does the US not have this?

> Does the US Have this?
Depends on who you ask
Our shadow government is the corporations lol 😭
Not really, no
The Democratic National Committee just recently made a foray into this (10 days ago) with a “People’s Cabinet.” As far as I know this is the first time either party has done anything like this. It remains to be seen if the idea will catch on and the Republican’s also adopt the concept when out of power, or if it’s just a flash in the pan/marketing stunt

Edit: to add, one reason why I think this is less intuitive for us in the US is that in the UK, there are no seperate legislative and executive branches. In the US, you can’t constitutionally work for two branches of government at the same time. So just because a representative/senator is a leader in a particular issue area doesn’t mean they’re a shoe-in to be the Secretary of the related department when their party wins the presidency. They may not want to give up their Legislative seat to take the Executive appointment.
No, we do not do this. There are minority party analogues to certain legislative positions (House Majority Leader vs. Minority Leader, for instance). But we don’t, like, pick a Democrat to run around specifically rebutting everything Pete Hegeseth does.
When Americans say “shadow government” we mean, like, conspiracy stuff.
We have the minority party, which keeps their structure even when not in power. So Hakeem Jeffries, who would be the Speaker of the House if the Democrats were in charge, is still the de facto leader of the House Democrats.
No, I assume because the house doesn’t run the executive. There is a parallel minority party structure in the house that would be elevated if the minority party were to win an election, but it isn’t for the cabinet.
Yes, Elink Musk.
No. Shadow government refers to conspiracy theories
No, we do not. Congress has something similar (majority party leader and minority party leader make committee assignments with committee chairs and ranking members being notable appointments).
