Walking in the countryside is a great way to destress
By connecting with nature it takes your mind of personal problems
I single-hand sail a little sloop, island hopping the Keys, with no electronics or auxiliary power (but oars).
There’s a rhythm to it – reading the wind & waves, adjusting the rigging/sails/rudder, and navigating by chart & compass. Add the uncertainty of weather, and it’s easy to put other concerns on the back burner.
I’ve avoided hard times, mostly, but lifelong self-employment has involved juggling some conflicting factors. Those just melt away on the water, or sometimes the path through them resolves itself in my subconscious mind and presents itself in clarity, unannounced.
The same holds true of backcountry forays to climb, ski, and fish for trout back home in Colorado. Again, a rhythm, that allows for compartmentalization.
Ongoing concerns are easier to temporarily put away, or at least park for a bit, when you’re busy with with tasks requiring your undivided attention. The joy in those routines helps a lot.
During Covid, we had a zoo pass and went walking through the zoo gor fresh air and exercise and seeing the animals, and it helped us enjoy lockdown. We also hiked to castles and waterfalls. We loved lockdown.
