I have a thing where listening to podcasts is my alone time while I do yard work. I was listening to Throughline, an NPR podcast. It was talking about the history of abortion in the US. Main point was that abortion was not criminalized in the mid 19th century in the US until some white dude decided that the white birth rate was too low and started the process to make it illegal. Then Comstock came in later to help that process. Finally, when too many (especially white) women were dying, Roe v Wade was decided.
I had no idea, but I’m not surprised. So much of our history and current government policy (especially now) has its roots in racism. I’m so sad for all the suffering and pain for no good reason. It was really interesting, and I’m happy I learned something new and so important.
Just wanted to share.
