I need help from my Iowa Cops, I pulled over a female with an Iowa license. Didn’t have her physical DL on her. Showed me the picture.
When I ran the license on NCIC, it was the most confusing thing I’ve ever seen. It has so many codes on the NCIC read out. What’s a code I – ignition interlock device required? She needs to blow to drive? It has code H, temporary restricted license.
She has a code J: not valid unless accompanied by a form 431009.
At the bottom driving restriction : SR required. And a driver license Non Commercial status: Surrendered.
Is her driving privileges revoked/suspended in Iowa?
I am in FL. Ran her through our DAVID database (driver and vehicle information database) and is driving suspended in FL.
I Just want the rundown on the Iowa stuff. It is the most confusing thing I’ve ever seen!

Well she’s suspended in your state that’s all that matters lol
There are certain combinations that are nearly impossible to decipher and only the Iowa DOT knows what they are trying to say.
In Iowa there’s the status, in this case surrendered, meaning they no longer have an Iowa license. That doesn’t clear suspension/ revoked/ barred, they just gave up their license to get one in some other state.
Then the codes
I: need a blower
H: temporary restricted license (restrictions are on the reverse)
J: need form 12235 (some bullshit paperwork the DOT wants you to carry)
S: Sr22 iinsurance
Below that it would show something like:
Revoked OWI test failure effective 1-2-24 through 1-2-25
Suspended non payment effective 1-2-24 through 12-2-24
The last line says something like
SR22 REQUIRED: ON FILE (or NOT on file)
If they don’t meet the restrictions it falls back to “revoked” If they are following the restrictions they could be valid.
It’s REALLY dumb. Have your dispatch contact State Radio in Des Moines and they would probably help you decipher whatever they have going on.
There’s someone else floating around here from Iowa that still stops cars regularly, I’m probably missing something.
Not from Iowa but here’s a link from Iowa DOT that mentions some of the questions you had. Sounds like a recent DUI/OWI. SR is usually insurance/financial responsibility, our system shows SR-22. Surrendered just means exactly that, surrendered the license to the respective state to apply for a license in a different state.
