Is anyone exhausted by how many ads are shoved into everything now — streaming, apps, digital news, even scrolling social media? How do you deal with it?

adblockers and I dont use any social media apps and have pretty much stopped using Twitch unless I want to see a new game being played.

see it as nothing more than late-stage capitalism entrenching itself and numb myself to the side effects, allow tension, stress and trauma to flood through my body, as we head towards nihilistic eternal extinction – of the most transcendent and ironic variety.

It used to be two things were certain in life: death and taxes, but I’m adding a third: death, taxes and advertisements. They’re everywhere in society now.

Especially the AI-generated ones. They’re an extra layer of mindless and annoying

How do I deal with it?

Simple. I either use an adblocker to get rid of the ads, or, if I can’t do that for some reason, I simply don’t use the product or service.

Nothing will cause me to cancel a paid service faster than an ad.

I remind myself that those 4 or 5 over-the-air television stations we had access to as children supported themselves with commercial breaks every 10-15 minutes, and we didn’t have the ability to skip past them. They’re a lot easier to ignore these days.

    Adblocker, baby.

I’m backing away from the din. I used to have a list of sites I’d visit every morning (to take the place of the newspaper I used to read), but the constant ads and politics finally got to me. I read my Facebook posts and then come here. That’s pretty much it.

Me last year into this year: I see an ad, I mute my phone and look away. I see a commercial on tv? I mute it and do something else. I’m on Twitch mobile and my landscape full screen suddenly shrinks and an Amazon link ad for cat food shows up? I close the app and just stop watching Twitch entirely because the mood was ruined. So now I basically spend like 20 minutes a day watching YouTube until I close a video out of frustration, and watching whatever stream I may have gotten a gift sub for.

Basically I’m just finding myself disengaging from most of the media I used to enjoy. Also I’m gaming a lot now and just watching my friends stream games in Discord, so I’m not really seeing them in the media I do play…..please God keep it this way!

I mean growing up i had cable. At least now the ads are tailored towards me. If only they’d stop advertising my own university that I’m currently enrolled in :/

I don’t use any streaming platforms for music, movies or TV shows, and the ones on social media don’t interrupt my usage or bother me. The only platform that’s starting to annoy me with it is YouTube because I watch that through my Xbox quite a lot

    VPN for YouTube and dns.adguard.com

  13. WheresFlatJelly Avatar

    I take Rybelsus

I pay for yt premium. I got it cause i wanted yt music. But the no ads is really nice. And other things if its add free then ill deal with it. Ill admit i lose immersion when i get ad breaks. I watched pantheon with no ads and i binged it.

I deal by buying as little as possible, wasting their advertising money. If their ads are particularly irritating, or show up at especially inconvenient times, I will buy from their competitors instead.

  16. SolaraOne Avatar

I mute YouTube videos and cover my hand over visual ads on my phone. Take that annoying advertisers!

  17. xgrader Avatar

Yes. I’m even developing conspiracy theories about my remote for the tv. An ad is running, and it won’t let me turn the TV off. 🙂 10 presses in it final goes off….buggers, there otta be a law dammit. 😆

  18. Illustrious_Bird_737 Avatar

There is an ad right below this post for me. … sigh

The first black mirror episode of the latest season hit hard

Brave browser on all my computers and I’m a happy add free person

  21. cwsjr2323 Avatar

I have the sound off, which helps. With multiple devices, the ad can run ignored on one device while I continue on another. It is also built in time to get a coffee, go pee, or just rest my eyes for two minutes.

  22. Rattlingplates Avatar

Ad blockers. I use brave and watch YouTube without ads.

  23. Slight-Ad-6553 Avatar

have the brave browser it have an adblocker

  24. everymanentrepreneur Avatar

YES. Feels like you can’t breathe without an ad popping up. I started using blockers just to keep my sanity.

  25. audiate Avatar

I feel like one of these days I’m gonna hit the toilet paper roll and a hemorrhoid cream ad is gonna fall out.

  26. Secret_Agent_666 Avatar

As everyone said, use and blockers. I have 4 as blockers running as each of them tackle and elements a bit differently so if a site like YouTube manages to counter one and blocker, the others jump in and stop the ads still.

In terms of apps I disconnect from the internet before opening apps and games that do not need the internet to function. Doing this prevents them from establishing a connection to the component that retrieves ads. If I download something I know has no reason to need an internet connection but still forces me to be connected to use it, then I hit the uninstall button.

For apps that do legitimately require an internet connection to function and have ads that force you to the app store (don’t know what tard thought that will make people download their crap but anyway) set parental controls to your web browser and app store. This will request a pin to unlock and makes it easier to jump back to your app/game.

  27. Piemaster113 Avatar

Short answer yes, long answer we were sick of it years ago but too many people just ignored it so now its worse than ever, pretty soon you’ll have to watch and ad anytime you open the reddit app.

  28. bouncyprojector Avatar

No, I can’t stand ads and almost never have to see them online. SponsorBlock for YouTube is the best thing ever when paired with ublock origin.

  29. Thor_2099 Avatar

Well I hate to say it, but nothing is free. You aren’t owed shit and ads are how places make money.

I’m way more exhausted by the grifting assholes that are dominating social media. Spewing shit, saying anything and everything to manipulate and get clicks. That shit is far more toxic.

  30. Bugaloon Avatar

Nope, I use adblock and haven’t seen a ad that wasn’t baked in to the content in years, and there are add-ons that auto skip those sometimes too.

  31. Chezziy445 Avatar

YES. It’s like every corner of the internet is now just one big infomercial. 😩 You pay for a streaming service, and still get hit with ads. You open an app, ad. Scroll your feed? Ad disguised as a post. Even news sites are like, “Here’s the article… after you dodge 5 popups, 3 autoplay videos, and a cookie consent form.

  32. KimChinhTri Avatar

I’m okay if the ad is just static text or image appearing on the sidebar, but can’t stand if it interrupts my activities (an ad popping up right at the middle of a game or a video). I even had to turn off internet connection when playing some games so that ads won’t appear.

  33. ZoroMommy Avatar

Istg its impossible to listen to music nowadays without premium i hate wasting money on apps but for me to listen to music id pay for it but for yt and all i use brave its really good i have been saved from ads so many times bcz of brave

  34. emotionalintellegenc Avatar

I’m just waiting for the day my toaster says: ‘This bagel was brought to you by Squarespace

  35. Shezzofreen Avatar

    If i can’t adblock them, i ‘m out.

I don’t mind a Ad-Teaser that is small, not animated, sitting at a special place – but everything else, nope.

  36. Protholl Avatar

Adblocker + pihole helps a lot but in-app ads are hard to stop. The “pause” ads are a menace that I’ve not found a way to block. We are well on to the big TV screen from the movie “Idiocracy”.
