Is Arrested Development still a masterpiece in Spanish?

r/

A lot of the comedy is embedded into the language, and I’m wondering if it’s still as funny in Spanish. I want to show it to my parents, but not if it’s going to be whack.

Also, I wonder how the whole “hermano” but goes in Spanish. Lol

I think it’s better in English, but the Latam Dub is pretty good still and I’ve watched the series (well, the first three seasons) with my family (who doesn’t speak English) twice. So, yeah, still good.

I never watched it. And I don’t think it was popular at all over here.

Back in the day I recommended the show to a friend and later he told me he was watching it with his GF but since the GF didn’t speak English that well, they were watching it in Spanish. According to him, it was still funny.

Often, dubs are not direct translations and they change things when they don’t quite make sense due to specific wordplay and things like that. A good translation/dub manages to be just as good as the original, and sometimes can even make a mediocre show actually good.

For instance, the cartoon Top Cat was huge in Mexico because the dub was great and the translation was much better and funnier than the original, which never hit it big in the US because it was just another Hannah-Barbera middle of the road cartoon and most people agreed it kind of sucked.

No, most of the jokes don’t translate well

I don’t know about Arrssted Development since it’s the first time i hear that…

    But.

I have to say it, The Simpsons in Latin dub it’s by far better than the original, particularly the older chapters.

Also, Shrek movies are better in spanish due to some artistic freedom from the voice actors. Some jokes are even better in spanish than in english
