I’m feeling really embarrassed and need some advice. I recently signed up for an astrology site (you know, the one with horoscopes and relationship advice) because I was curious and going through some personal stuff with my partner. They had a cheap trial, so I thought it was safe to try. But after the trial, I got charged way more than I expected, and now I’m struggling to cancel it. Their support hasn’t gotten back to me, and I’m starting to panic.
I looked online, and a lot of people are saying similar things, unexpected charges, trouble canceling, and feeling like the service wasn’t worth it. The reviews I found made me feel even worse, like I should’ve known better. I’m not great with money right now, and this hit me hard. I feel so dumb for thinking a site like this could help me figure out my life.
Has anyone else had issues with these kinds of astrology platforms? I’m too afraid to ask my friends because I don’t want them to think I’m naive. How do you even know if an online service is trustworthy? Should I just let this go and learn my lesson, or is there something I can do without making a big deal? I’m also worried I’ll keep getting charged. Any advice would mean a lot.

It’s an Astrology site, of course it’s not legit. It’s astrology.
No hate if you believe in astrology and think it’s helpful for you more power to you. but personally it’s all hogwash to me. I’m not going to let the stars or alignment of the planets or the month, day, and time I was born dictate if I have a good day or not, or if I’m compatible with someone or whatever. I’m going to make those decisions myself.
As far as the money issue goes, at some point most people fall into the trap of giving someone your credit card information that you shouldn’t have. It’s a learning experience. To solve it, go to your bank. Tell them that this company is making fraudulent charges and to prevent all future transactions. Or just cancel your card outright and get a new one. Additionally, you can tell them you never agreed to the payments and depending on your bank, they will go after the company to try and recover the money. Credit card companies are far more vicious and pro-active about that kinda stuff, and credit cards are easier to cancel and replace. So I normally recommend that all online transactions happen via your credit card (assuming you understand how to be responsible with a credit card). Plus you have a debit card for back up. It’s typically recommended that you always have at least 2-3 ways to pay for something. Debit, cash, and at least 1 credit card.
Astrology is pretty scammy to start with, signing up for a site like that was just asking to get robbed.
You’re gonna have to close whatever card/account they’re charging, and maybe even change banks.
I’ve heard similar stories about those astrology sites, people saying they got hit with random charges too. Maybe try reaching out to your bank and explain the situation; they might be able to reverse it
What worked for me was calling my credit card company directly; they froze the account and refunded me
I read somewhere that a lot of these sites use vague terms to trick you into subscriptions.
Call your bank and get them to stop paying the subscription
You are talking about individuals who make their money sharing obscure, broad advise based upon the position of the stars and planets. If anything they say helps, they got a loyal customer. If it didn’t help, they still made money.
When you’re having issues with your partner, you should take it to your partner, or a therapist. Hoping the stars will give you guidance is…not the answer. There is no “legitimate” astrology.
Astrology is bullshit, but that doesn’t mean all those sites are scams. They’re basically telling you what you want to hear. If it makes you feel better than you did before, and if you get what you paid for, it’s not really a scam. It’s just taking advantage of people who are willing to pay for something with no scientific basis.
That being said: ANY site, any service that charges you without your knowledge, that refuses to let you cancel? That’s a scam. It doesn’t matter what particular service is being provided; this kind of crap happens with all kinds of websites and subscription services. It’s definitely not specific to astrology sites. You just happened to choose a site that’s literally stealing from customers.
